Black ice is dangerous. If you’ve ever tried walking or driving on it, you’ll understand.
This is why it came as no surprise to parents when Shelby County informed them that school would be delayed to allow it to melt from the roadways.
Unfortunately, bus driver Wayne Price did not get the notification in time. He’d already picked up all his students and knew returning them would increase the risk of an accident. Instead, he did something quite different.
He realized he had to do something to keep the kids entertained since he would rather not park the car and leave them staring at their phones for two hours.
His actions may not have been strictly following the rules, but they did not surprise administrators at Montevallo Elementary School in Montevallo, Alabama.
They are aware of Wayne’s cheekiness.
However, the youngsters had no idea what was ahead for them. When they went into a nearby McDonald’s, they must have wondered if Wayne had lost his mind.
He only meant to buy them breakfast biscuits, paying for their missed meals since they weren’t at school.
Mr. Price, one of our bus drivers, embodies the true spirit of Christmas! There was a delay in school on Tuesday.
The information was posted by Montevallo Elementary School on Wednesday, December 12, 2018.
To put it in perspective, Wayne’s bus had about 40 to 50 kids, so you can imagine how much it would have cost him.
Officials from the school replied to the generosity on Facebook, stating, “Mr. Price, one of our bus drivers, genuinely embodies the Christmas spirit! When snowy roads delayed school on Tuesday and we couldn’t serve breakfast, he bought McDonald’s biscuits for his entire bus of students! What a thoughtful gesture that our pupils will always remember!”
People from all over the world have overwhelmed Wayne with tributes and pleasant words since he announced his philanthropic effort.
What a truly kind gesture, and what a way to go above and beyond for the children he clearly loves!
