Fathers of daughters have a few job perks: they can be a hero, a child’s first love, and the one to introduce their daughter to her true love. They also get a special dance at the wedding to remember it.
When Bruce Walton’s daughter, Harmony, was planning her wedding, the former Dallas Cowboys lineman knew nothing would stop him from enjoying that momentous moment with her, not even the physical constraints he suffered following a traumatic brain injury in 2017.

Bruce developed a severe case of pneumonia in 2017, which made him critically unwell. He collapsed at home one evening and sustained a traumatic brain injury, resulting in a four-month medically induced coma.
Bruce had long-term consequences as a result of his injuries and coma. Since waking up, he has relied on a walker to go around and a cochlear implant because his hearing is significantly compromised.

Harmony was concerned that the injury would prevent her from sharing the beloved father/daughter dance with her father. But Bruce had other intentions.
Bruce chose the song “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” for their dance since he knew it by heart and could sing along with Harmony, despite not being able to hear the music. He even dressed up his walker for the occasion and rocked back and forth with his daughter, who tried to hold back tears throughout the emotional moment.

Bruce stated, “It was very emotional for us both.” I had no rhythm in my dancing steps, but I didn’t care. It was one of the most beautiful moments of my life, etched in my memory forever.
