The incident at the Liverpool FC parade occurred when a driver slammed into the crowd, coinciding with doctors making a statement

Four people are claimed to be very, very unwell in the hospital after a driver slammed into a gathering of Liverpool FC fans who had gathered in the city center for the club’s victory celebration.

Merseyside Police have stated that a 53-year-old white British male, believed to be the driver, is presently in custody in connection with the incident, which occurred on Water Street in Liverpool yesterday (May 26), soon after 6 p.m. local time.

Liverpool City Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram told BBC Radio 5 Live this morning still four individuals who are very, very unwell in hospital.’

“We are hoping, of course, that they pull through,” according to him.

During a news conference last night, Dave Kitchin, the chief of North West Ambulance Service, revealed how many individuals were injured as a result of the rampage.

“We can confirm that our teams treated 20 patients at the scene for minor injuries—these did not need hospital treatment,” the captain told reporters.

“Twenty-seven victims were sent to the hospital by ambulance, and we believe that two of them, including one of the children, had significant injuries.

“Our cycling paramedic was also regrettably struck by the car; however, we are relieved to inform you that no injuries were incurred. We also know that some patients have self-presented to local hospitals.

Liverpool FC’s open-top bus procession began, with the soccer winners displaying the Premier League trophy to hundreds of thousands of fans who had traveled to the city to celebrate.

The open-top bus marched around the Strand, with team captain Virgil van Dijk, Premier League Golden Boot winner Mo Salah, and the rest of the Liverpool squad joined by Calvin Harris, who was DJing at the time.

Flares and pyrotechnics exploded around the city, while the singer’s ‘One Kiss’ played.

Just after 6 p.m., disaster struck on Water Street, which is off Strand Street.

Harrowing footage circulating online shows a driver blaring his horn at supporters in the city center before speeding into the gathering and coming to a halt at the scene. Eventually, authorities apprehended a man.

Of the 47 persons hurt, two are believed to be critically injured, including a child.

6.11pm

Firefighters were on the site to assist with the rescue of four individuals, including a toddler, who were trapped beneath the automobile that crashed into the gathering.

Mersey Fire and Rescue Service’s chief fire officer, Nick Searle, stated during a news conference last night that after receiving notification at 1807, three fire engines were dispatched to Water Street and arrived in 4 minutes. When the crews arrived, they discovered a large number of injured victims as well as four people trapped under a car.

“Our crews quickly lifted the vehicle, removed people from beneath, and handed them over to our ambulance colleagues.” We then collaborated with emergency response providers to ensure that casualties got medical care and transportation to the hospital as soon as feasible.”

Police closed off Water Street, using both police cars and fire engines. We also spotted medics treating crash victims in the roadway.

Merseyside Police confirmed that a man has been apprehended in connection with the incident.

The message continued, “We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city center.” At around 18:00 today, we received reports of a vehicle colliding with many pedestrians on Water Street. A male driver was apprehended at the site. Emergency personnel are now on the site.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke out over the event.

The Labour leader expressed his condolences for anybody injured or impacted by the tragic events in Liverpool. I’d like to thank the police and emergency services for their prompt and continuous responses to this tragic occurrence.

Police reported that a 53-year-old white British guy from the Liverpool region had been apprehended.
