The actor, 68, was supposedly taken aback when his 49-year-old wife of 18 years, Christine Baumgartner, filed for divorce. Costner’s absence was reportedly ‘challenging’ for Baumgartner, who wanted the actor to spend more time at home with his family in Santa Barbara.

‘Kevin is not present much throughout the shooting. ‘His absence has been really difficult for her,’ according to a source. According to another source, although Costner was aware that his wife was dissatisfied with their marriage, her filing for divorce came as a surprise to him.

Costner’s career has lately been revitalized thanks to the success of his television series Yellowstone. Horizon, a Western epic, is also one of the actor’s forthcoming directing projects. His wife was supposedly concerned about his availability due to his present schedule and impending endeavor.

‘Christine does not want him to become involved with another project. Since last year, he has been preoccupied with filming Horizon. ‘She wasn’t pleased about it,’ according to a source.

According to reports, the actor has been in Utah shooting his forthcoming film Horizon, his first directorial attempt in almost 20 years since his 2003 picture Open Range.

Christine reportedly requested that Costner quit the program last year or she would leave him.

Costner filed his answer to the divorce on Tuesday and also requested shared custody of their three children. In the year 2000, the pair started dating. Baumgartner married the actor in 2004 at his property in Aspen, Colorado, where she was a model and fashion designer at the time.

‘It is with great grief that circumstances beyond his control have resulted in Mr. Costner being forced to join in a dissolution of marriage case,’ says the court. Kevin Costner’s spokesperson issued a prepared statement.

We respectfully request that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time,’ the statement said.

Baumgartner, according to reports, has not sought spousal support. Laura Wasser has submitted Costner’s rebuttal. ‘Spousal support should be paid to the petitioner in accordance with the provisions of the parties’ premarital agreement,’ Wasser wrote, noting that both couples had a pre-nuptial agreement.

Their case will be heard in July.

Costner’s marriage is not his first. From 1978 through 1994, he was married to Cindy Silva. When they were both students at California State University, Fullerton, they met.

Silva is said to have helped Costner when he was a fledgling actor. She worked odd jobs to finance his fantasies, such as playing Snow White at Disneyland.
