Police and witnesses have apprehended a suspect in connection with the concert that shot and wounded a Texas singer.
Witnesses claim that an audience member shot Jada Thomas while she was collecting autographs after a presentation with The Black Academy of Arts and Letters in downtown Dallas. WFAA reported, citing authorities, that the incident occurred while Thomas was signing autographs.
Officers arrived at the scene about 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, and discovered the 26-year-old gunshot victim, according to a Dallas Police Department statement PEOPLE shared on Monday, November 4.
The police statement states that they transferred Thomas to a nearby hospital, where his condition remains stable. According to the statement, authorities detained and charged the defendant, Micah Williams, 26, with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon.
WFAA obtained an arrest complaint, which states that a witness purportedly noticed Williams in a hotel lobby, leading to Williams’ apprehending. According to the complaint, a witness characterized Williams as “really robotic and off,” and the defendant reportedly admitted to shooting Thomas.

“It was a packed house; people were in line getting autographs, and we heard this shot,” Curtis King, founder and director of TBAAL, told NBC 5. “It was unbelievable. “It was as if everything was moving slowly.”
In a Facebook post on Sunday, November 3, King said Thomas was “going to be okay” following the shooting, which occurred after a “wonderful performance.”
“Pray for all of us who have been blessed by Jada’s music and ministry and will continue to do so,” King tweeted, adding that she is “courageously strong.”
The statement from the police indicated that they had seized a firearm and that the investigation was still ongoing. It’s unclear whether there is a connection between the two.
According to online jail records, Williams is being detained at Dallas County Jail on $200,000 bail. It is unknown whether she has filed a plea or hired a counsel to speak on her behalf.
