They were told not to sing praise songs for Jesus. Here’s how they reacted…

It’s true that the night Little Big Town was accepted into the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, was one of the most amazing nights of their lives. A beautiful performance of “Why Me Lord,” the product of a collaboration between Little Big Town and country artist Vince Gill, opened the opening presentation of the series. The show made a lasting impression on many people, including the author, who got goosebumps from it.

Kenna Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet collaborated with Vince Gill to create a masterpiece. Country music legend Kris Kristofferson wrote and recorded the song “Why Me Lord” in 1972. Since then, a variety of artists have covered the song. The movie’s performance is considered one of the best.

Vince Gill appears to have been aware of Opry policies that forbid performers from singing songs about Jesus. This appears to have been done in order to avoid potentially upsetting non-Christian audience members, as the film’s backstory implies. Vince chose to continue the performance anyhow, and it seemed like the crowd embraced it wholeheartedly.
