Sleeping comfortably for a full night without waking up once appears to be an incredibly unusual occurrence, yet it is exactly what is necessary if you want to be completely productive—without feeling weary—the following day.
Many individuals believe that merely getting to bed at the correct hour ensures a good night’s sleep, only to wake up between 3:00 and 5:00 a.m. This can be problematic at times, especially if someone is unable to return to sleep.
The fact that most individuals wake up around this time is not a coincidence, nor is it due to poor luck. The trend is significant.
The hours between 3:00am and 5:00am are commonly referred to as “the hour of the wolf,” after Swedish director Ingmar Bergman’s psychological horror film of the same title.
“Most people die between midnight and dawn, when their sleep is deepest and nightmares are most vivid.” It is the hour when the sleepless are afflicted by their deepest agony, when ghosts and devils are strongest. Bergman said that most kids are delivered at the hour of the wolf.

According to Professor Birgitta Steene, the term comes from Swedish tradition, where the “hour of the wolf” refers to the time between 3:00 and 5:00 a.m.
This era is thought to be related to a greater rate of both deaths and births. This is also when the body often enters its deepest rest, which may affect its functioning.
In folklore, the witching hour, sometimes known as the devil’s hour, is a nighttime period associated with supernatural phenomena. Witches, devils, and ghosts are said to materialize and wield the most power during this period.
The Hour of the Wolf
For individuals who can sleep normally, the wolf hour symbolizes the deepest stage of slumber. However, for those who wake up, it is said to be the peak of anxiety.
The body’s circadian rhythm (the 24-hour cycle of physiological processes) corresponds to the sun’s rising and falling, which means that body temperature, blood pressure, and metabolism decrease at night.
They are at their lowest about 4:00 a.m., which is when the body enters its natural rest period. If you have anxiety, your symptoms may worsen now, waking you up.
