This star attracted attention for having the ‘worst look’ at the 2025 Met Gala

The 48-year-old musician’s approach to this year’s fashion theme took an unexpected turn, at least in the eyes of netizens.

Colombian artist Shakira stood out at the 2025 Met Gala in New York City, wearing a gown that prompted online controversy and became a social media talking topic. She walked the red carpet in a pale pink strapless gown that blended classic elegance with eye-catching design features. The tight dress featured nude illusion cutouts on both sides of her torso and thighs, giving a provocative element to the clean silhouette.

A similar pink train billowed behind her as she went, adding to the dramatic impact. She completed her ensemble with translucent black polka-dot gloves, a diamond necklace, and lovely, cascading hair.

The response on social media was quick and divided. One netizen described the garment as “pink bedsheets wrapped up.” Another criticized the dress’s fabric, characterizing it as “wrinkled plastic.”

One commentator questioned if Shakira’s stylist had completely addressed the event’s theme, implying a misalignment between the design and the event concept.

Another comment pointed out that although Shakira looked gorgeous and the dress was elegant, the outfit felt thematically out of place—more suitable for a quinceañera than a high-fashion gala.

Others were more frank in their comments, saying, “I’m sorry, but I genuinely despise this. The appearance was truly appalling. This could be the worst appearance I’ve seen today, ugh #MetGala [sic].”

Someone else added, “Also missed the theme by a mile,” while another agreed, stating she completely missed the motif. Amidst the criticism, one fan provided a more positive take: “I think this is the first time I’ve seen Shak [sic] look expensive. 😍😍😍😍.”

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s website billed the event’s dress code as “Tailored for You,” urging attendees to interpret menswear-inspired apparel in ways that expressed their particular style.

Inspired by the 2025 Costume Institute exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the theme celebrated suiting workmanship, displaying distinct shapes, rich materials, and accessories influenced by Black sartorial traditions.

The Met wanted to strike a balance between structure and innovation while preserving the exhibition’s cultural richness and historical relevance.

In an interview with E! News, Shakira lauded designer Prabal Gurung for knowing women’s bodies and tailoring the gown to her form. “He’s a wonderful designer who understands women’s bodies really well,” she told me. “So the clothes fit like a glove almost instantly, but we did have, like, three fittings.”

Shakira previously appeared at the Met Gala in 2024, wearing a flaming red bespoke gown by Carolina Herrera. She attended the event with the brand’s creative director, Wes Gordon.

The dramatic outfit included a rose-inspired sculptural cape, cutouts on the bodice, and a brilliant flower-shaped crystal in the middle. She finished the look with red satin Stuart Weitzman shoes and a diamond necklace, creating a strong first impression at fashion’s most prestigious event.

Shakira took a brief hiatus from her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” international tour to attend this year’s Met Gala. She praised the trip as “so complete” and stated that the enthusiasm of the audience motivates her even when she is exhausted. “People are just the engine,” she stated, “giving me so much gasoline.”

Behind the scenes of her world tour, Shakira collaborated closely with her longtime stylist, Nicolas Bru, to design a tour costume that visually depicts her career progression. “We started the conversation about tour looks almost a year ago, when we knew that she was going to tour following the release of the album,” Nicolas shared.

Nicolas added that they looked at her whole body of work to identify the tone of the performance and create a costume that would complement the story and dance on stage.

The wardrobe includes 10 diverse styles by various designers, including Versace, Jawara Alleyne, Zuhair Murad, and Brazilian designer Dario Mittmann. Some clothes honor personal milestones, such as a pastel-blue dress designed for her boys.

She also revisits her “Pies Descalzos” era, a nod to her 1995 blockbuster album, with a barefoot piece to commemorate its 30th anniversary. For the encore, she changes into a tattoo-printed bodysuit designed for high-energy dancing.

One of the most complex pieces is a Zuhair Murad gown decorated with thousands of beads and over 50,000 crystals, inspired by Shakira’s “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” album cover, which contains diamond tears.

Following her Met Gala performance and ongoing global tour, Shakira made another remarkable public appearance, this time at the 2025 Grammy Awards, accompanied by her two boys.

Shakira and her boys, Sasha and Milan, made a gorgeous appearance at the event on February 2, and fans couldn’t stop admiring how much they resembled their famous mother. The brothers wore similar silver tuxedos and strolled boldly alongside their mother, who was dressed for a performance. Shakira later changed into a silk jersey bodysuit outfit for her red carpet appearance. The suit had orange and black flower designs and was accompanied by a black lace mermaid-style gown.

The bodysuit’s flash of color worked nicely with the sequin lace skirt, which had a slit and a lengthy train. Shakira’s beautiful boys captivated fans with their striking resemblance to her, more so than her exceptional performance and beauty.

An admirer lovingly noted, “They’re both her clones ❤️.” Another fan said, “They look just like their mama; Shakira really reincarnated herself twice 😍.” One fan singled out her youngest kid, writing, “The little one is her twin.”

Shakira’s boys received several praises, with one admirer calling them “Gorgeous boys like Mama 😍.” Fans praised their clothes, with one saying, “They are so cute, and they looked so stylish….loved their matching tux jackets!!” One admirer praised the entire family, saying, “She’s lovely, and her sons are very handsome ❤️.”

She stated, “For them, the most important lesson they can learn from me is how hard I work, that nothing comes easily, and that everything is the result of discipline and commitment.” One of the lessons I want to teach kids is that tonight’s Grammys are no exception to this. We’ve worked hard to provide something enjoyable for the folks.”

The mother of two also praised all women who work hard to improve the lives of those they love. “You are the real she-wolves, all of you women who work tirelessly every day to support your families,” she said. “So, this is also for you.”

Shakira, Sasha, and Milan relocated from Barcelona to the United States following their split from Gerard. The couple welcomed their first child, Milan Piqué Mebarak, on January 22, 2013.

Their second son, Sasha Piqué Mebarak, was born on January 29, 2015, at 9:54 p.m. in Barcelona. Similar to Milan, they delivered Sasha via planned cesarean section at a private hospital.

Shakira and Gerard began dating in 2010. The two were on the set of her music video for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which served as the official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

They confirmed their split in 2022. “We hate to inform you that we are parting. We beg for privacy at this time for the sake of our children, who are our first concern. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.

Shakira went through a difficult period following her split, dealing with public backlash while attempting to be there for her children. Despite life’s hardships, she is thankful to be here and proud of the strong lady she is.

“I’ve grown considerably. I’ve learned many lessons.”. Life hasn’t always been kind, but it’s been a beneficial teacher,” she said. The artist, who has a 30-year music career, is enthusiastic to continue making powerful moves.
