Todd and Julie Chrisley were officially released from prison one day after receiving a pardon from President Trump

Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley are currently free.

The pair, who were sentenced to separate jails in January 2023 after being convicted of tax evasion and bank fraud the previous year, were freed on Wednesday, May 28, only one day after President Donald Trump granted them a full pardon, PEOPLE can confirm.

Todd, 56, was freed from Federal Prison Camp Pensacola in Florida, with his daughter Savannah Chrisley waiting to pick him up, while Julie was picked up by their son Grayson Chrisley at Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

“This process has been absolutely insane, and I’m just so grateful that I’m going to leave here with my dad,” Savannah told reporters, including TMZ, on May 28, moments before her father was released. “I came here at 2 a.m. last night and haven’t slept…” I’m just a daughter who wants to take her father home.”

Savannah also mentioned that her father “couldn’t believe it” when he received the news of his release, describing it as a surprise.

Todd and Julie were originally prosecuted in 2019 and were convicted of tax evasion and bank fraud in 2022. They reported to jail in January 2023. After being sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison, the couple’s sentences were eventually reduced.

President Trump stated on Tuesday, May 27, that he had given the reality stars full pardons.

During a phone chat with Todd and Julie’s children, Trump stated that the Chrisleys were “terrific people” who had been “given pretty harsh treatment, based on what I’m hearing.”

“It’s a terrible thing, but it’s a great thing because your parents will be free and clean,” the president remarked during the call. “I hope we can finish it by tomorrow.”

Trump continued, “I don’t know them, but give them my regards and wish them good luck.”

Savannah, who had been fighting for her parents’ release, expressed her reaction to the news of their presidential pardon in an Instagram Live on Tuesday, May 27, stating she was left “speechless” and “freaking out.”

“I will forever be grateful for President Trump, his administration, and everyone along the way — all of my lawyers and the people who put in countless hours and effort and love for my family to make sure my parents get home,” said Savannah. “I am eternally grateful.”

The 27-year-old also released a statement, which said in part, “For the past two and a half years, I’ve done all in my power to fight for my parents’ freedom and bring them home. This moment is the answer to countless prayers, and I am eternally thankful to President Trump for seeing the truth and restoring my family.

“Today marks a triumph for our family, but the struggle against unjust convictions and unfairness in our prison system is far from ended.” I will continue to use my voice and platform to advocate for those who do not have one,” she stated. “Family is everything to me, and I will never stop fighting for what is right.”

Grayson also welcomed the news with an Instagram post on May 28. “I can’t find the right words….” Thank you, President Trump, for restoring my family and reuniting my parents. “Thank you, God, Savannah, Mrs. Alice Johnson, and President Trump 45/47,” he wrote.

The Chrisley family rose to prominence on the USA Network docuseries Chrisley Knows Best, which aired for ten seasons from 2014 to 2023. PEOPLE reported earlier this month that the family would appear in a new Lifetime docuseries.
