Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are commemorating their 37-year marriage today with a grand celebration.
Hanks, 68, tweeted a nice photo of himself and Wilson, 68, after a swim while on vacation. “We’ve been married for 37 years. Today! “Love you, Mrs. – Mr. Thanks,” he gently captioned the photo.
Wilson, meanwhile, uploaded a cozy selfie of herself with Hanks, in which the actor donned a red scarf and a green beanie, while Wilson wore a white fleece jacket and matched her man with a black beanie. Her post stated, “Happy 37th Anniversary, my love!” and included a rainbow of different colored heart emoticons.
The pair met on the set of Bosom Buddies, an ABC sitcom, in 1981. At the time, Hanks was still married to his first wife, Samantha Lewes. Hanks and Lewes, who had two children, Colin (46) and Elizabeth (41), were formally divorced in 1987.

Hanks and Wilson reconnected for the 1985 film Volunteers before their relationship became romantic. The pair made their red carpet debut in 1986 at the premiere of The Three Amigos before marrying in 1988. They have two kids, Chet (34) and Truman (29).
Since their 1988 wedding, the pair has made countless appearances in cinema together. They appeared as siblings in Nora Ephron’s iconic 1993 romcom Sleepless in Seattle, the 1996 comedy That Thing You Do!, Wes Anderson’s 2023 feature Asteroid City, and others.
Hanks and Wilson have also had success producing films, most notably the My Big Fat Greek Wedding series and two Mamma Mia flicks under Wilson’s Playtone production firm.

The couple just celebrated Wilson’s ten-year cancer-free anniversary. She complimented her “loving, supportive husband” after her illness. The Instagram post from March 31, 2025, said, “10 years. And I am really grateful.”
She went on to say, “I am quite grateful to my physicians. To my friends and family. The appreciation is amazing. I did not always feel this way. And you know that everybody who is going through it or has survived understands that it’s like a hamster wheel, running up and down. But then you reach a pivotal moment of clarity and change.”
Wilson was 58 years old when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and as she told PEOPLE at the time, she underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. The actress said that she has been living with LCIS (lobular carcinoma in situ) and is “vigilantly” monitoring it with yearly mammograms and breast MRIs.
While Wilson does not go into detail about her prior cancer struggle, she stated that she was publicizing the anniversary because “I think it’s important to celebrate good news.”
