Tom Selleck, the star of “Blue Bloods,” is known for his reclusive lifestyle at his private ranch in California. Recently, he made a rare public appearance running errands in Los Angeles, wearing a mask as a precaution.
Selleck, 78, divides his time between Los Angeles, where he films “Blue Bloods,” and his secluded 65-acre ranch in Ventura, California, where he has lived with his family since 1988. The ranch, purchased after marrying Jillie Mack in 1987, serves as a retreat for the couple and their children, Hannah Margaret and Kevin.

The actor, famous for his iconic mustache and his role in “Magnum P.I.,” faced controversy when a private investigator discovered he was diverting water to his avocado farm during a severe drought. Despite paying $22,000 for the investigator’s costs, Selleck received no fines but did admit to the water diversion.

Selleck, who found fame as Thomas Magnum, a Navy SEAL turned private investigator, in “Magnum P.I.,” had his career path altered by contractual obligations preventing him from taking the role of Indiana Jones in “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” However, he went on to star in successful films like the “Three Men and a Baby” franchise, “Quigley Down Under,” and “In & Out.”

In his later years, Selleck gained new fans with a recurring role in “Friends” as Dr. Richard Burke, the older love interest of Monica. Since 2010, he has portrayed NYC Commissioner Frank Reagan in the TV series “Blue Bloods.”

Selleck, a former Sergeant with the National Guard, emphasized the importance of balance in his life and the need for privacy, especially after leaving “Magnum P.I.” in 1988. His ranch provides the tranquility and isolation he seeks.

Despite his controversy involving water diversion during California’s drought, Selleck remains private about his personal life, focusing on family and maintaining a balance between work and his secluded retreat.
