Trump causes significant discussion online after claiming ‘smart people’ do not like him

Donald Trump has long been a contentious character, but his most recent remarks at a speech have prompted a heated debate on social media.

Over the weekend, Donald Trump made some odd remarks when addressing guests at a banquet at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club.

Clips of Trump’s brief address have already circulated on social media and gotten people talking, and it’s simple to understand why.

The US president’s comments seem inappropriate as he proceeds to discuss the tragic death of Charlie Kirk.

He commented on Tyler Robinson, the suspect named by the FBI, after he said that ‘smart people’ disliked him. Amazingly, when he made this remark, the audience began to chuckle.

Trump stated, “Smart people don’t like me, you know? And they dislike what we discuss.

“But he’s [Robinson] gotten politicized; so many things have been learned about him so rapidly; he’s become radicalized and insane, and it must have been painful since the parents are conservatives who are supposed to be really kind and live in Utah.

“The parent turns in his son; that’s a terrible situation.

“I actually asked somebody in the FBI how often that happens, knowing even the guilt that a father will turn in his son, or parents will turn in a son, and he said almost never.”

Kirk was assassinated while speaking at an event hosted by his firm, Turning Point USA, on Wednesday (September 10) at Utah Valley University. On Friday (September 12), the FBI revealed that they had apprehended a suspect, identified as 22-year-old Robinson.

Critics of Trump seized on his ‘smart people’ remark, admitting they don’t always agree with the president.

Others have pointed out that this comes across as a disrespect to those who support him.

One Twitter user said, “Did he just call MAGA dumb?!” For the first time, I believe what he said.”

Another voice replied, “He can say anything; he knows it. MAGA will never accept they’ve been fooled.”

A third person commented, “Smart people generally don’t have much patience for those who are vacuous.”

Another adds, “This could be the first genuinely truthful and sensible thing he’s ever said.” Wow, he directly insulted his fans, which is quite amusing.

And a fifth simply stated, “Smart people recognized a snake oil salesman.”

Another just mocks Trump fans, saying, “You would think his followers would take issue with it. Oh, but then they wouldn’t be his followers.
