She did not flee from pain. And no, this was not just another performance. She stood there, slight in stature but unwavering in spirit. The lights lowered, but her narrative illuminated the room. Her voice did not shake, but the emotions of the crowd did. Every lyric was a vow shouted over the hospital walls. She sung what physicians could not promise: “through the good and bad.” This wasn’t about winning; not this time. It was about Jamie. About love. Imagine standing tall without really standing. And, as the final note lingered in the air, the judges weren’t the only ones in tears.

Shevon Nieto, a two-time Olympic runner, wowed audiences on America’s Got Talent 2020 with an original song made for her spouse.
Shevon is originally from Jamaica but now resides in California; with her cheerful attitude and amazing narrative, she captivated the judges.
She spoke tearfully of her ambition of winning the Olympics and how it all came crashing down unexpectedly one day.

Shevon raced 400-meter hurdles in high school, and in ninth grade, she was rated third in New York State in the 400 meters. “Making it to the Olympics was like winning the lottery,” she told the crowd. She competed in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and again in Beijing in 2015.
However, in 2016, her husband, Jamie Nieto, a two-time Olympic high jumper, was involved in a leaping mishap while instructing Olympic hopeful athletes after his foot slipped on one of his leaps. This immobilized him from the chest down and altered Shevon’s life forever.

She had to quit from sports and abandon her Olympic goals. “Jamie simply kept saying I’m sorry. “He felt like he ruined our dream,” she explained.
Jamie described the occasion as “heartbreaking” since he did not want Shevon to abandon her dream. Shevon composed songs for Jamie to help him get through the difficult days following his accident.

He encouraged her to audition for America’s Got Talent to display her talent. “I married the woman that storybooks talk about,” he added. “It feels really good to win your races, you know, but the most difficult races are the best ones.” “That victory is worth everything,” Shevon stated.

Shevon sang an original song called “Through The Good And Bad” that she penned for Jamie.

Guest judge Eric Stonestreet appeared to be poised to cry during her performance; there was no audience for Shevon’s audition because it was taped during the peak of the coronavirus outbreak. Shevon received a standing ovation from the judges for the uniqueness of her song and true skill. We truly hope this ‘angel’ makes it to the conclusion of the program and wins it.
