Ty Pennington, an HGTV celebrity, was intubated after ‘barely’ breathing

Ty Pennington, a design specialist, had a serious health scare earlier this week and was brought to the hospital emergency department.

Pennington, 58, posted pictures of himself being intubated on Instagram on Friday to describe his treatment.

He opened his social media message by saying, “This last week has been interesting. From the red carpet to the ICU.”

A few days after attending the “Barbie” premiere, the “Trading Places” actor said that he “woke up at 4 a.m. and could barely breathe.”

It turns out that the painful throat I suffered for a month was an abscess that had gotten so big that it was blocking my airway. I was intubated and rushed to the Denver ICU the very next moment.

He underwent surgery on Wednesday and was discharged from the intensive care unit on Thursday afternoon, the HGTV presenter said.

Pennington praised the hospital workers and said that he is “still recovering” at the moment.

It’s “a great reminder to LISTEN to your body when it’s telling you something,” he said.

The TV celebrity documented the events that took place this week during his health concern in a number of images on his social media accounts.

He can be seen giving the thumbs-up in the first image as he lies in a hospital bed with cables fastened to his hospital gown.

He also uploaded a picture of himself being intubated in a hospital in Denver. In his last picture, he was sitting back and holding a medical cup while pointing at the camera.

Another image captured Pennington on the “Barbie” premiere’s red carpet. In the forthcoming HGTV program “Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge,” Pennington will take part in a competition against eight other teams to recreate the iconic pink home of Barbie.

After Pennington joined the cast of “Trading Spaces” in 2000, he became well-known.

Following the success of “Trading Spaces,” Pennington was hired to anchor “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” which aired from 2004 to 2012.

Today, Pennington is hosting HGTV’s “Battle on the Beach” and is in the fourth season of his new show, “Rock the Block.”

In 2021, Pennington married Kellee Merrell, a 35-year-old woman.
