A mass casualty incident occurred during a neighborhood block party last night, killing multiple people.
Around 8:14 p.m. on April 26, somebody driving an SUV plowed into a crowd in Vancouver, Canada.
According to reports, the event was a Filipino community gathering known as the Lapu Lapu Day festival, attended by an unknown number of individuals.
The Vancouver Police Department confirmed the terrible occurrence in a social media post, saying, “A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival at E. 41st Avenue and Fraser shortly after 8 p.m. tonight.” The driver is in custody. We will give further details as the inquiry progresses.”
Police reported that they had detained a 30-year-old Vancouver man on the scene.

“The investigation is ongoing and is being led by the Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crime Section,” the detectives stated.
According to BBC News, witnesses said the man drove ‘absolutely straight, right into the throng.’
Yoseb Vardeh, co-owner of the Bao Buns food truck, who was on the scene, feared the driver had reached speeds of 100 km/h (62mph).
“I think he was going for maximum damage,” he said to the BBC. “I just saw bodies underneath people’s food trucks and husbands crying out for their wives or their kids; it was just horrible.”
Newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has spoken out about the terrible incident, stating that he is “devastated.”
“I am devastated to hear about the horrific events at the Lapu Lapu festival in Vancouver earlier this evening,” the politician said on Twitter.

“I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the families of those slain and injured, the Filipino Canadian community, and everyone in Vancouver. We’re all mourning alongside you.
“We are monitoring the situation closely and are thankful to our first responders for their swift action.”
Elizabeth May, co-leader of Canada’s Green Party, has also resorted to social media, writing, “My prayers are with Vancouver and its Filipino community as we hold our breath waiting to learn more about the tragedy that occurred at Lapu Lapu Day in south Vancouver tonight.”
She went on to say, “I’m outraged and heartbroken that such an act could take place on a day when Filipino culture, fortitude, and resistance are celebrated. I am offering love to the impacted family.”
