According to Maui County officials, at least 106 people have died and hundreds have lost their homes as a deadly wildfire consumed Hawaii over the last week.
The death toll in Hawaii might yet grow dramatically, according to Governor Josh Green, who told CNN: “Over the next several weeks, we’ll be able to confirm who passed away.” But it’s going to be a tough road.”
Authorities have cautioned that inhabitants in regions where the fire has already been extinguished may still suffer problems as a consequence of harmful byproducts that may have permeated the area, including drinking water.
As the disaster unfolds, innumerable distressing photographs and videos illustrating the magnitude of the damage to the area have appeared online.
However, one stands out from the crowd.
The eerie photograph in question depicts a house that appears to be the only one in the neighborhood that has not burned down.
Its crimson roof stands out from the surrounding dwellings, which have been reduced to ash.
Many people commented on how emotional the photograph was when it was posted.

“Man, returning to that house has got to feel so lucky and so sh*ty at the same time,” one user wrote.
“This is the most incredible and saddest photo,” said another.
The flames have damaged or destroyed at least 2,200 dwellings and other structures, and they have burned over 2,170 acres. Thousands of individuals require assistance.

The blaze is already the worst wildfire in modern US history, and with close to $6 billion in damage, it is also possibly Hawaii’s greatest natural disaster.
President Joe Biden directed that all federal assets be made available to assist with the response. He stated that the Hawaii National Guard has dispatched Chinook helicopters to assist with fire suppression and search and rescue efforts on Maui.
“Our prayers are with those who have had their homes, businesses, and communities destroyed,” he continued.

“It’s tough to see some of the images coming out of Hawaii, a place that’s so special to so many of us,” said former US President Barack Obama in a statement. Michelle and I are praying for everyone who has lost a loved one or had their lives turned upside down.”
