Viewers of the Super Bowl seem divided over what happened when the camera panned to Donald Trump during the national anthem.
The 78-year-old is the first sitting US president to attend a Super Bowl, which takes place this evening (9 February) at the New Orleans Superdome between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jon Batiste was singing the American anthem as the camera showed Trump and his daughter Ivanka taking their seats in the stands before the game.
However, several fans thought the audience was booing the new president during the Grammy-winning singer’s performance.

“You all didn’t boo Donald Trump loud enough,” one user said on X.
A second statement was made: “That was pretty s**ty to show Trump while Jon Batiste was singing the National Anthem; it forced me and half of America to boo.”
Others were unable to determine whether it was a boo or a cheer.
Someone else asked, “Did they cheer or boo Trump? It’s hard to tell.”
Another echoed, “Did they boo or cheer Trump at #SuperBowlLIX?”
“I look forward to joining the fans in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX to cheer on two great teams—the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles—as they battle for the National Football League’s Vince Lombardi Trophy,” Trump said in a statement before the match.
“The coaches, players, and team staff on the field tonight represent not only the best in professional football but also the best of the American Dream.

“Their hard work, dedication, and tenacity are admirable, and their personal journeys are as inspiring as the drive and determination that brought them to this extraordinary moment.
“They also represent the hopes and dreams of our nation’s young athletes as we work to restore sports safety and fairness, as well as equal opportunities for all teams.
“Football is America’s most popular sport, and for good reason: it promotes national unity by bringing families, friends, and fans together while also strengthening communities.
“This yearly ritual transcends our differences and personifies our common patriotic ideals of family, faith, and freedom, which are valiantly guarded by our military personnel, law enforcement officials, and first responders.
“We value their devotion to protecting our great nation and salute their selfless service.”
