The compassion of strangers was on full display as hundreds of people reached into their pockets to assist an Air Force veteran who was trying to care for his ailing wife.
Now, the internet can be a frustrating place. It’s full of rubbish, ignorance, and arguably the worst hot takes ever.
However, it’s quite lovely to occasionally use the internet to elevate and assist those in need.
We’re all feeling the strain on our wallets these days, but Donald, a 90-year-old Air Force veteran, has fallen particularly hard. He is not yet 90 years old.
Donald met a TikToker, Jenelle Marie, who helped promote his story for her followers, and many vowed to do all they could to assist.

Marie met Donald at the Gold and Pawn shop in Manchester, New Hampshire.

During their conversation, the veteran revealed that he was selling his jewels to cover his rent and take care of his recently diagnosed dementia-stricken wife. Tension escalates when their landlord decides to raise the rent, causing Donald to fear eviction.
Marie presented Donald with an envelope containing $1,300 from donations made by herself, her fiancé, and 25 other generous individuals in a video she posted on Facebook.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, the Air Force veteran pledged to repay the favor with dinner when he could afford it.
But it just gets better from here.

Following this, Marie created a GoFundMe campaign for him, which has received over 13,000 donations.
Even though the target was just $350,000, Donald has raised more than $370,600 as of now.
So what exactly is the money for? Marie clarified that the vet will only use this money to lessen his financial burden and assist him in finding a new home.

On the campaign website, she wrote, “I’m now seeking for him a new apartment to rent that is within his budget, but I was hoping I might raise some money to alleviate his financial burden. Any cash would be very welcomed, as would any resources for renting a one-bedroom first-floor apartment or house in the Manchester region.
In an update on August 9, the TikToker thanked everyone who donated and stated that she and her fiancé would be meeting with Donald and an attorney to transfer all of the money into a safe account that he could access.
So, it sounds like a positive conclusion all around.
