Laura Hillier, an exceptional student from Nelson High School in Ontario, Canada, faced the challenges of leukemia at the age of 13. After a period of remission, the disease tragically returned, leading to her passing on January 20, 2016. Despite the adversity, Laura exhibited bravery, poise, and an unyielding spirit until the very end.

Known for her passion for music and drama, Laura’s impact resonated with those around her at school. As a heartwarming tribute, her casket became a canvas of remembrance. Family, friends, educators, and peers covered it with colorful, heartfelt messages, creating a unique farewell that celebrated Laura’s life.

Amid the messages, some poignant inscriptions included:
“You were musical. You were artistic. You were understanding. You were my best friend.”
“Life is a song… Sing ’til your heart’s content.”
“Very brave and strong. You will always be a hero.”
The vibrant annotations on the once stark white casket symbolized Laura’s vivacious spirit and the indelible mark she left on the world.

In a fitting tribute to Laura’s favorite color, the funeral service embraced hues of purple. From floral arrangements to attendees wearing purple attire, the color permeated the solemn occasion, celebrating Laura’s zest for life.
To ensure Laura’s legacy lives on, donations are encouraged to be made in her name to Coast to Coast, a charity dedicated to eradicating childhood cancer. Laura’s journey, though short, serves as an inspiring reminder of the beauty of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.
