Being a parent is a big job, and it can be even harder when money is tight.

People may be lucky enough to have family members who are willing to help them through hard times, but in other situations, adults may not be so lucky.

A woman from Michigan who has twin daughters found out that she was in the second group.

That is, until members of her community came together to provide her the assistance she needed at the time and offered her the support she deserved.

The story takes place in 2017 and is about a kind police sergeant who changed the lives of a single mom and her twin daughters in a big way. Erin Harrison has two daughters.

Their names are Hayden and Abbigale, and they are twins. Reports from WXYZ-TV Detroit say that the family lives in the charming town of Walled Lake, which is in the state of Michigan.

Sergeant Heather Kolke was just doing her normal job of keeping an eye on the city when Harrison came up to her.

Sergeant Kolke told the news source, “She started asking me questions about the law.” Not long after that, Harrison asked her if she could sleep with her daughters in her car.

It seems that this set off a series of alarm bells in Sgt. Kolke’s mind.

The police officer started to ask questions to find out what was going on with the family.

After that, she found out that Harrison had just been kicked out of her apartment because she wasn’t paying her rent on time.

She had been working at a fast-food restaurant for the past four years, but the pay wasn’t enough for her to pay her bills on time.

As a mother herself, Sgt. Kolke was moved by Harrison’s story and knew she had to do something to help.

Harrison was broke, and she thought that she and her girls could stay in her car until she saved enough money to get them back on their feet.

Up until that point, she had planned to leave her car parked at Walled Lake Elementary School so it would be easy for her to drop the kids off at school.

Sgt. Kolke, who has her own children, felt like she had to do something to help the family. She told a news organization, “That’s why I knew I had to at least, you know, give her a place to stay.”

So, she took action and even got the whole community involved.

Sgt. Kolke asked for charity donations on behalf of the Harrison family so that they could stay in a hotel instead of living on the streets.

Hayden and Abbigale both turned nine years old on that Saturday, and Sgt. Kolke was able to get more money so that the two girls could at least celebrate their birthdays properly.

Because the police officer wanted to help the Harrison family without expecting anything in return, the mayor of Walled Lake asked the community through local media if they could work together to find a long-term solution for them.

As he watched the news with his children, a dad wondered if his family could also help. Eddie Osram is the name of the man, and he owns and runs a successful business in the area.

He owns the shop in Marathon. He told WXYZ-TV Detroit the following about how willing his family was to help:

“At that point, I said, “Let me see what I can do.”

Osram immediately called other local business owners to see if they could also help. “A lot of them said, ‘Whatever it takes,'” he told WXYZ-TV Detroit.

The family’s neighbors gave them clothes, household items, and more to help them out.

Over $2,500 was raised, and a kind stranger offered to take the twins shopping for $1,000 worth of new clothes and other things they will need when they find a new home.

One of the people there wanted to help because he had been in the same situation as a child. He told the nearby news station:

“I was in a similar situation, and if someone hadn’t helped me, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

The kids from Osram even wanted to give the twin girls from Harrison the $341 they had saved from their allowances. Osram said:

“When one of us needs help, we all get together right away to help each other.”

Harrison was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from her community, and she found it difficult to find enough words to express her gratitude.

She told the news source, “It warms my heart to know that there are people out there who care.”

She thanked the community for being kind by saying she would use the money to buy a house for her and her family.

This story serves as a timely reminder that we may never completely know the circumstances of another person, and that even the smallest acts of kindness can build up to significantly improve the quality of another person’s life.
