It may be feasible to outsmoke Willie Nelson.
In an interview with Forbes, published on Saturday, June 7, the country icon discussed his new THC-infused drink, Willie’s Remedy, and disclosed that he no longer smokes marijuana.
When asked how he stays “young on the road,” Nelson, 92, explained that he “can’t smoke anymore.” “My lungs have already said, ‘Don’t do that,'” Nelson, who runs his own marijuana company, said. “So, I don’t do much these days except consume a few edibles.”
The “On the Road Again” singer also discussed the necessity of drinking THC, the major intoxicating ingredient in cannabis, according to Healthline. It provides a high, unlike CBD.
“I believe it’s nice; people seem to like it from what I’ve seen and heard.” It’s becoming increasingly popular,” Nelson added. In 2019, Nelson stated that he has quit smoking cigarettes, but his spokesperson stressed that he “still tastes the flower” and “doesn’t smoke any more or any less [weed].”
Nelson has been open about his smoking escapades. Nelson told PEOPLE in February 2023 that he smoked with Snoop Dogg while in Amsterdam. “I love Snoop,” he stated about the artist. “He and I have been best pals forever. It was a lot of joy just hanging around and doing some stuff with Snoop.”
Nelson explained that he and Snoop, 53, “smoked a lot of marijuana and had a lot of fun.” “I was over in Amsterdam, and I called him, and I said, ‘Come on over here, and let’s have some fun,'” Nelson remembered.
“So he did, and we hung out at all the hotspots over there, The Bulldog and Gray Area and all the good stuff.” Meanwhile, Snoop was confident Nelson was going to outsmoke him.
According to the late President Jimmy Carter, Nelson allegedly smoked cannabis on the White House roof with one of Carter’s kids.
Nelson also discussed his current album, Oh What a Beautiful World, and the significance of spreading a good message during his Forbes interview. “I think it’s time we try to make people happy by talking about the good things and being positive,” he told the outlet regarding the April 25 release.
What makes the nonagenarian happy? Nelson likes “playing music.” “I adore watching people get together and forget about anything but music. I believe there is a big constructive interchange taking place.”
“We don’t care what color you are or what political party you’re with. Come on.”
Nelson chatted to PEOPLE in 2023, just before his 90th birthday, in awe of his milestone year. “I never thought I’d get here,” he admitted at the time. “This isn’t nothing. It is another day.”
“I get a lot of fun out of playing for an audience,” Nelson said, alluding to the nicest gift he could get in honor of his 90th birthday. “There is a big interchange of energy there. That’s what keeps me going.”
