Jo Ann Ussery’s incredible adventure began in 1993, when her house in Benoit, Mississippi, was destroyed, leaving her with two children and no money. When it came to finding a suitable place to live, her brother-in-law, an air traffic controller, proposed an unusual solution: living in a retired Boeing 727 jet.
Ussery pursued the idea with zeal, and when she came upon a Boeing 727 that was due to be destroyed, she fell in love and acquired it for $2,000, including transportation. This one-of-a-kind home was dubbed “Little Trump” after Donald Trump’s own Boeing 727. Ussery went on a path of transformation, spending less than $30,000 on upgrades.
He parked the plane on her land near a lake, secured the tail with concrete, and methodically reconstructed the interior of the 138-foot-long plane. The inside of the 1,500-square-foot building received considerable alterations. To optimize space, Ussery updated the insulation, installed new carpeting, and reused the aircraft lavatory and overhead bins.

The interior of the plane was expanded to include three bedrooms, a living space, a kitchen, and even a washing facility. Ussery even converted the cockpit into a master bathroom complete with a soaking tub, giving the impression of floating in midair while staring out over the lake. Surprisingly, Ussery made the majority of the improvements alone.
Ussery and her family lived in the converted airplane between 1995 and 1999, enjoying its distinctive charm and amenities. She finally decided to turn her invention into a museum and share it with the rest of the world. Unfortunately, the airplane tragically fell off its carrier and was destroyed during a brief transportation attempt.

Ussery’s unique and engaging journey demonstrated her ability to turn unusual locations into practical and comfortable living spaces. Her Boeing 727 home became a symbol of ingenuity and resilience, combining aviation heritage with modern life. The images of her incredible creation continue to enchant us, reminding us of the creativity that can transform an ordinary thing into an astonishing house.
