Your jaw will drop after you learn how much Friends’ scripts from Ross’s London wedding cost at auction after they were found in the trash

One person’s discarded items can turn out to be another’s valuable possession. Over 25 years since the conclusion of the fourth season of the NBC sitcom “Friends” with the episode “The One with Ross’s Wedding,” two scripts, initially disposed of, fetched a staggering $28,000 in an auction. According to the BBC, these scripts, outlining the plot set in the U.K. where Ross (David Schwimmer) marries Emily (Helen Baxendale), were discovered in a trash bin at Fountain Studios in Wembley by a staff member. Notably, these scripts featured the now-famous scene where Ross utters “I take thee, Rachel” at the altar instead of his actual bride’s name.

Although the identity of the buyer remains undisclosed, they were categorized as an “international” bidder. Amanda Butler, the head of operations at the auction house, expressed astonishment at the bidding frenzy, stating, “I just can’t believe the result and the impact this find has had. Bidders went crazy for these scripts.”

The London episodes marked the beginning of the love story between Matthew Perry’s Chandler Bing and Courteney Cox’s Monica Geller. This revelation of the script sale coincides with the Friends cast grappling with the untimely passing of Matthew Perry on October 28 at the age of 54.

In early November, Schwimmer, Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, and Lisa Kudrow came together to commemorate Perry’s life at his funeral. They issued a joint statement to PEOPLE, emphasizing their deep connection as more than just castmates, describing themselves as a family. The statement acknowledged the overwhelming loss and expressed the need for time to grieve and process, promising more reflections in the future.

At the 2024 Critics’ Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California, Jennifer Aniston shared with Entertainment Tonight that fans can honor Perry’s legacy by continuing to “celebrate him.”
