After Donald Trump openly discussed the notion of deporting him, the Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City is responding forcefully.

Trump is on edge. Zohran Mamdani is the new political name everyone is talking about.

Just a week ago, the 33-year-old Democratic Socialist from Queens was almost unknown outside of New York. After upsetting party favorite Andrew Cuomo in the New York City mayoral race, he is now being heralded as the Democratic Party’s next major hope.

Mamdani, who was born in Uganda and is Muslim, is advocating for bold, Bernie Sanders-style ideas such as a $30 minimum wage, free public transportation, universal preschool, and taxing the ultra-rich to pay for it all. His unexpected ascent has put both the Democratic establishment and Donald Trump on edge.

“100% Communist Lunatic”

Trump, speaking candidly on Truth Social, referred to Mamdani as “a 100% Communist Lunatic.” In a follow-up interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, the president made it plain that if Mamdani gets power, he intends to use his influence: “If he does get in, I’m going to be president, and he’s going to have to do the right thing or they’re not getting any money; he’s got to do the right thing.”

Mamdani reacted during an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, claiming he is already dealing with the personal aspect of the assaults.

“I have already had to start to get used to the fact that the president will talk about how I look, how I sound, where I’m from, and who I am, ultimately, because he wants to distract from what I’m fighting for, and I’m fighting for the very working people that he ran a campaign to empower, that he has since then betrayed.”

“We might have to arrest him…”

When questioned about Zohran Mamdani’s courageous opposition to ICE raids during a press conference in Ochopee, Florida, after inspecting the new “Alligator Alcatraz” migrant detention camp, Donald Trump insulted him once more.

“If he’s going to stand in the way, we might have to arrest him,” Trump stated plainly.

“We do not need a communist wandering around in our nation. And if we have one, I’ll keep a careful watch on him—for the sake of the country.”

Trump went on to say that Mamdani’s validity should be reviewed, alluding to potential immigration difficulties. Mamdani, who was born to Indian parents, became a naturalized US citizen in 2018.

“We provide him with support and resources for effective governance…” However, some argue that he may not even be here legally. We’ll check everything. Hopefully, he proves to be less of a communist than he appears. But what about right now? That is not socialism. That is straight-up communism.”

The words generated an immediate response, adding to Mamdani’s quickly expanding notoriety.

Mamdani’s Warning

Zohran Mamdani, a senior member of the Democratic Socialists of America, the largest socialist group in the United States, has responded to President Trump’s threats of arrest and deportation.

In a forceful statement, Mamdani stated, “The president of the United States just threatened to have me arrested, stripped of my citizenship, placed in a detention camp, and deported.” This is not due to any laws I have broken, but rather because I refuse to allow ICE to intimidate our community.

He did not stop there. The Queens assemblyman cautioned that this wasn’t simply a personal assault but a larger attempt to muzzle dissent:

“His statements don’t just represent an attack on our democracy but an attempt to send a message to every New Yorker who refuses to hide in the shadows: if you speak up, they will come for you. We will not accept this intimidation.”

Mamdani also accused incumbent New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who is running for reelection as an independent, of copying Trump’s rhetoric:

“At a time when MAGA Republicans are seeking to demolish the social safety net, force millions of New Yorkers off of healthcare, and reward wealthy contributors at the expense of working people, it is scandalous that Eric Adams repeats this president’s divisiveness, distraction, and hatred. Voters will overwhelmingly reject it in November.”

Meanwhile, Mayor Adams accused Mamdani of having a privileged background, and Tennessee Republican Rep. Andy Ogles declared, “Goodbye, little Muhammad!” If you falsified your N-400 naturalization paperwork, you’ll be sent home.”
