A child produced “the sweetest moment” of a bride’s life on her wedding day.
Kristie Mihelich (née King) and Bobby Mihelich were married on April 22, 2022, at the Planterra Conservatory in West Bloomfield, Michigan. But it wasn’t their “I dos” that won over their wedding guests’ hearts; it was the heartwarming reaction of their then-2-year-old son, Pierson.
As shown in images by Orange Blossom Photography and a viral video, the child couldn’t contain his enthusiasm when he spotted his mother at the end of the aisle. “Hey, Mom!” he said, raising both of his hands in the air, causing everyone to burst out laughing.
Pierson couldn’t wait any longer to hug his mother, so he dashed down the aisle with his arms out wide. When he got there, he excitedly threw his arms around the bride’s white mermaid-style bridal gown. Then he turned around and walked down the aisle with her. He stood between his mother and brother, clutching both of their hands.
“I couldn’t even believe it was happening,” Kristie tells People. “It absolutely changed my emotions about getting married to simply heart-melting. And, honestly, I believe that was the sweetest moment of my life.”
The event was “the highlight” of Kristie and Bobby’s special day, leaving their friends and family “in awe.”
Pierson’s reaction caught Kristie off guard. She didn’t expect her kid to have such a positive reaction given his past attitude toward the wedding.
“The night before, at the rehearsal dinner, I couldn’t even convince him to stand up next to us and practice. “He wanted nothing to do with it,” she says. “I was simply glad he was standing there and engaging. And when that happened, I was like, ‘You’re kidding me.” This could not be better.”
Kristie isn’t sure what Pierson was thinking, but she guesses he was just surprised to see her dressed so beautifully and excited to see her again.
“I truly believe he was thinking, ‘Oh, Mom, you’re dressed up. You’re not wearing pajamas. It was probably something along the lines of, “You look so gorgeous.” I don’t know,” she says. “I think he was just shocked to see me come walking around the corner all dressed up,” she says.
She continues, “He didn’t fully understand the concept of walking down the aisle, and he hadn’t seen me since the first glimpse.” So he was probably thinking, ‘Oh, there’s Mom, but why is she down there?'”
Pierson, who served as the ring bearer, had first seen his mother earlier in the day. His reaction then was just as beautiful.
She continues, “His mouth was literally jaw-dropping, and my bridesmaids were nearly in tears as he ran to me, and I picked him up. It was incredibly sweet.”
Later in the night, Pierson continued to impress visitors, this time with his dance talents.
“He literally danced the entire night on the dance floor afterward,” Kristie tells me. “So cute.”
Pierson, at five, is even closer to his mother.
“Oh my gosh, I just feel like our bond has grown so much stronger since then,” she tells PEOPLE. “He’s definitely a mama’s boy.”
Her son has viewed the viral video of himself several times but does not completely grasp its importance.
Kristie informs me, “He is incredulous that he was featured on television, and occasionally, it will appear on my phone, and he is still incredulous.” “When I tell him he’s a star, he still doesn’t understand what it implies. So I believe it will take some time for him to fully comprehend what happened.
