No one saw it coming! 64-year-old man earned a standing ovation for his outstanding performance

If you watch as many talent programs as I do, you’ll understand that nothing beats a surprise. Perhaps it’s a young child with skill much beyond their years, or perhaps it’s someone who straddles genres to create something unique. Or perhaps Dan Lucas, who is competing on The Voice Senior, chooses the perfect song and nails it.

The American rock band Journey’s 1981 power ballad “Don’t Stop Believin'” was written by Steve Perry, Jonathan Cain, and Neal Schon. It barely reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 list when it was first released, but it has since become a classic rock radio staple and is still one of the best-selling library songs in iTunes history.

The song has appeared in a number of films and television shows, including the theme music for the last episode of the long-running HBO series The Sopranos. In 2009, it was declared the top-selling catalog track in iTunes history, and VH1 ranked it the best song of the last 25 years that same year.

So enters Dan Lucas, a 64-year-old who began his career as a language teacher (English and Russian) before moving on to other bands in the United States, Canada, and Europe. When watching this video, it’s clear how Dan got into the music business. Dan eventually won this season of The Voice Senior, and many, including some of the judges, attributed it to his song performance.
