There was a little shake-up in the format during the final round of Britain’s Got Talent tryouts. Things became heated during the last round of Britain’s Got Talent 2025 tryouts. When Simon Cowell was challenged by an audience member, security immediately intervened—but everything was not as it appeared. Midway through the auditions, as the judges spoke amongst themselves, a guy called Simon’s name from farther back in the auditorium. ‘What?’ the music mogul, 65, said, spinning around to look for the faceless voice.
Standing in his seat, the spectator informed him, ‘For 19 years I’ve been wanting to get in front of you, and I’ve never, ever had the chance.
‘Could you perhaps give me one opportunity? “I can show you what I’ve got,” he implored.
As Simon stood up, he directed the man to approach the desk.

At this time, security personnel rushed over, prepared to act. However, Simon persuaded them to stand down, telling the guard, ‘No, it’s fine.’
He smiled as he greeted the hopeful, while one security guard stood by the desk as a precaution.
Simon, who has been judging BGT since 2007, asked, “Are you serious?” Is this a wind-up?
Max Fox introduced himself and shook hands with the judge, saying, ‘I’m a singer; I’m a local vocalist.’
Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and guest judge KSI were all taken aback by the format switch, with KSI saying, ‘I’ve never seen anything like this before.’
Several other audience members stood up to catch a glimpse of the action as Max informed the panel, ‘I feel like it’s my final time.’
Simon shrugged and replied, ‘Alright, go do it.’ He appeared to welcome the change.

‘So, this isn’t a set-up?’ he questioned again, wanting to make sure. “You just chanced it?”
‘I simply took a gamble,’ Max told him. ‘I made it to the front of the audience. I just got lucky with this jacket, I believe.
He then went backstage with producers to set things up, with hundreds of fans cheering him on for his impromptu audition.
As the show concluded, Max reappeared and screamed out an epic performance of Frank Sinatra’s My Way, but not before explaining why the event was so important to him.
‘I’ve been trying to get in front of you (Simon) for 19 years, starting when I was 16. I’ve gone to Manchester’s football stadiums where you’ve held your major auditions, but I’ve never been able to meet you.
Fortunately, I was 10 feet away from you. I’m not sure how I got that seat, but I thought it would be worth asking you.
The full-time singer stated that performing was his ‘passion,’ vowing to Simon that the occasion was genuine, dispelling viewers’ doubts at home that the entire event was ‘staged.

‘This is my dream, singing in front of you,’ he remarked, and Simon quipped, ‘I hope you’re good.’
He was fantastic, as Max’s strong voice garnered him a standing ovation, as did Amanda’s Golden Buzzer, although she had previously used it.
This resulted in Max soaring through to the live shows in a spectacular moment that fans believe exemplified the finest of BGT.
‘The last audition on #BritainsGotTalent, with the final Golden Buzzer going to a man from the crowd, really confirms that the program should go back to traveling the country and allowing individuals just to come up. “So much better and more authentic than recruiting global all-stars,” tweeted @superTV247 on X.
