There are no words to express Calysta Bevier’s courage at the age of sixteen. Calysta received the most horrible news of her life only a year ago. While on vacation, her mother discovered a bump on her tummy and rushed her to the hospital. Doctors quickly diagnosed her with stage 3 ovarian cancer.
Calysta had chemotherapy all summer long. Though she claims that losing her hair was the most heartbreaking day of her life, she never gave up hope. One source of her strength comes from her passion for music and singing. She thinks that “songs can really help people through any situation.”
Calysta achieved remission on August 28th, following her diagnosis and subsequent therapy.
Calysta used her win to pursue her aspirations on America’s Got Talent, as her hair and strength began to come back. She chose “Fight Song” for her audition and delivered an emotionally charged and heartfelt performance. “I came here to show people that no matter what you’ve gone through, you should keep chasing your dreams,” Calysta explained of her motivation for taking the stage.

Simon saw she had something unique from the moment she arrived on stage, even before she spoke her remarkable story. I couldn’t agree more. Consequently, Calysta received the highest honor during the audition: the Golden Buzzer!
Her sincere and fearless demeanor makes her easy to connect with, even if just through a computer screen. My heart goes out to the incredible and brave young woman, and I can’t wait to meet her again during the live concert!
Calysta is unique, and so is her performance. Share her amazing tale with the world!
