A senior dog is attempting to begin a new life after being abandoned in a New York park.
A nonprofit organization based in Syracuse, New York, Cuse Pit Crew, shared a Facebook post about a dog named Max on August 1. The group, which promotes ethical pit bull ownership, detailed the unfortunate circumstances that led to Cuse Pit Crew discovering the pet in the article.
“This morning, adorable Max was left tied to a picnic seat in Syracuse’s Schiller Park with this letter. We met Syracuse Police and Dog Control there, who took pictures and rushed Max to the emergency vet for treatment,” the Cuse Pit Crew stated on social media, along with many photos of Max and the message.
The images show Max, a dog with a brindle fur pattern, chained and lying on the ground next to the picnic table. Photos of a message pasted beside the dog stated, “I’m a good boy.” I am seventeen years old. My name is Max. My owners can no longer care for me. “Please help me!”
According to Cuse Pit Crew, the NGO called local authorities to assist in finding a temporary home for the abandoned pet. As they shared Max’s story on Facebook, the group expressed their belief that they could have prevented the tragedy.
“Max is not the first dog abandoned in a park; he will not be the last.” Our offerings could have prevented this situation. We are not a rescue team, but we will work with you to solve problems to the best of our abilities. “We’ll do it without judgment because we want pet owners to feel comfortable coming to us for assistance,” Cuse Pit Crew wrote.
The group then updated the tweet to let followers know that they had placed Max at HumaneCNY.
On social media, Max’s new temporary home revealed more information about the canine’s current condition and plans.
“They placed him on a seat in Schiller Park.” We don’t know how long he remained there before someone discovered him. HumaneCNY posted on Facebook that he is a senior boy over the age of 12, with a body score of 2, and that he underwent an initial cruelty exam before heading to the vet tonight for a complete checkup and bloodwork. ok.
VCA Animal Hospitals states that “BCS (Body Condition Score), the pet version of BMI, is a quantitative, yet subjective, method for evaluating body fat.”
HumaneCNY assigned Max a BCS of 2, indicating that he is an overly skinny pet. Pets with a BCS of 2 often have “somewhat visible” ribs and a “severe waistline.”
Stefanie Heath, a Cuse Pit Crew board member and one of the first individuals to assist Max, told WSYR-TV that the dog’s condition is improving after receiving emergency vet care. We will shortly place the dog in a foster home to complete his recovery.
HumanceCNY seeks to receive help from the community and other animal lovers with Max’s care.
On Facebook, the shelter stated that it is looking for donations to help fund Max’s medical fees because “we’re only halfway through the year, and we’ve already exceeded our budgeted medical expense costs.” As of August 2, HumaneCNY had raised more than $11,000 for the dog’s upkeep.
