Dean Cain, the former Superman actor, instantly grew combative when asked about his decision to join Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a live TV interview with political analyst Tim Miller.
Cain spoke on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Monday (August 12), after Miller’s announcement on Instagram last week.
The 59-year-old, best known for playing the superhero in the 1990s series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, wrote in his post that he wants to help ‘secure the safety of all Americans.’
Cain enrolled in ICE rather than ‘simply talking about it.’
In an interview with Fox News, he said, “I’ll be sworn in as an ICE agent soon.”
Some of Cain’s supporters have expressed displeasure with the change, and Miller was among those who questioned the actor’s choice on Monday.

In the interview, Miller blasted the concept that ‘somebody who is not trained would join ICE’ and accused the agency of ‘putting on masks’ and ‘nabbing individuals,’ adding, “It’s a disgusting policy. It’s un-American.
Miller said, “They went through a legal procedure, and now we have ICE officers, and supposedly former Superman actors are going to rush out of trucks and apprehend them and keep them in deportation cells. That is absurd.” That’s not how you act in a free country.”
However, Cain responded by claiming that he was being ‘denigrated’ because of his acting history, saying, “I don’t understand why you have to go, you know, a former untrained actor.”
“I am not untrained. I’ve been a sheriff’s deputy for over ten years. I’ve served as both a sworn sheriff’s deputy and a reserve officer. So, I’m not sure why you’re saying untrained.”
Cain went on: “And by the way, when you join ICE, they train you. So to say that and attempt to disparage me because I’m an actor and shouldn’t be worried about what’s going on with our borders or with our law enforcement agency is derogatory. This is absurd.
Should I argue that because you are a former Republican strategist, you have no say in anything? That’s nonsense.
“Denigrating someone because of what they used to do, what they do now, or whether they’re an actress, writer, or newscaster is ludicrous…
“There are over 100,000 persons who have applied for ICE. So clearly, there is a willingness for people to stand forward and serve their nation.”
When asked if he would know the rights of individuals he meets as an agent, Cain stated that he is ‘not an ICE agent yet,’ but that those who are are being ‘villainized.’
“You’re going out, and you’re villainizing these ICE agents who are trying to uphold the law,” he joked. “These are fantastic guys and people. They should not be assaulted. Their families should not be assaulted. They are performing their job.
Cain will join ICE, according to Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin, who says he will be ‘sworn in as an honorary ICE officer in the next month.’
