Jenna Fischer, the actress of The Office, has announced that she has been discreetly battling breast cancer for the past year.
Fischer, who portrayed Pam Beesley in the famed comedy, took to Instagram to share her story in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“Back in October of 2023, I posted a photo of myself on Instagram preparing for my routine mammogram with a joking reminder to ‘take care of your ticking time bags’ a la Michael Scott,” the actor added in a statement.

“After unclear mammography findings due to thick breast tissue, my doctor requested a breast ultrasound. They discovered something inside my left breast.” A biopsy was ordered.” I received a diagnosis of Stage 1 Triple Positive Breast Cancer on December 1, 2023. Triple-positive breast cancer is a very aggressive kind of breast cancer, yet it is also extremely treatable. In January, I underwent a lumpectomy to remove the tumor. Fortunately, early detection prevented my cancer from spreading to my lymph nodes or the rest of my body. However, the aggressive nature of triple-positive breast cancer necessitated the use of chemotherapy and radiation to prevent its return.

“I started 12 rounds of weekly chemotherapy in February, followed by three weeks of radiation in June. And, while I continue to get Herceptin injections and Tamoxifen on a daily basis, I am pleased to report that I am feeling terrific.”
The actress went on to discuss her chemotherapy experience, the support she received from her family, and the importance of scheduling annual mammograms for those with breast cancer.
“I am announcing this for multiple reasons.” One, I’m ready to quit the wigs. Two, I implore you to get your annual mammogram. You can also ask your doctor to calculate your Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score and schedule any additional screenings. “I’m serious; call your doctor right now,” Fischer said.

The Office fan favorite then revealed that she is currently cancer-free but is still receiving treatment during her remission.
I’m happy to announce that my recent rescreening revealed the effectiveness of the treatments. I am cancer-free. I’ll receive ongoing treatment and monitoring to maintain my current condition. Again, do not skip your mammogram. Please heed the advice of Pam and her team. Michael was correct. Get them checked, ladies. Know that there is a village ready to care for you if you receive a breast cancer diagnosis.
