After receiving job rejection, young woman with facial tattoos and piercings approached TJ Maxx staff

Anyone who has ever had their application rejected for a job has surely wondered why they didn’t qualify for the position. Was it a lack of skills, your delivery style, or anything else?

Recently, TJ Maxx denied Ash Putnam, 23, a job, and she vented her frustration on TikTok, where her video went viral.
Her video has already gotten more than 7 million views and tens of thousands of comments. As the 20-something with tattoos inquired about how young people might get entry-level jobs, everyone in the comments seemed to agree on one aspect.
Putnam said in a popular TikTok video that she applied for a job at TJ Maxx but received an automated email “a few weeks” later refusing her application.

“They couldn’t even call me; they just sent me some automated email.”
Unsatisfied with the response, Putnam returned to the store where she applied and confronted the employees.
“I went in today and asked, ‘So what was the reason why I didn’t get hired?'” “Oh, you just don’t have enough experience; there were people with more experience than you,” she responded.
“I asked her whether it was for my tattoos because I know a lot of places don’t like them. She replied that wasn’t the reason; I don’t believe it’s true, but I’ll leave it at that.”
“My tattoos don’t make me a negative employee. That doesn’t make sense to me.” Some of the most educated people I’ve ever met have tattoos and piercings,” she explained.

The Californian, who works for Uber Eats, never received a direct response from TJ Maxx, but TikTok users seemed to agree on the reasons for her job rejection.
“Tattooers here; it’s probably the tattoos.”
“Hr supervisor here. No corporation would put you in front of people like TJ Maxx.”
“I worked at TJ Maxx, and they will hire just about anyone that comes off the street; it’s definitely the tattoos and piercings.”

“I don’t believe it’s because you have tattoos.” I believe it’s because of your tattoos.
Putnam appeared to also believe it was her tattoos.
She told the Daily Star, “I do think it’s about my tattoos, as they are demonic and scary to a lot of people.”
“TJ Maxx did not say anything to me; these are simply a few of the comments I received on my video. People are expressing disrespect on my TikTok video, suggesting that I should work for a circus or a Halloween store.
She thinks businesses should reevaluate their hiring practices, even if the shop rejected her because of her body art.
