After spending days stuck 1,968 feet down an active volcano, the tourist’s family has spoken out following her death…

The family of a Brazilian national, who died after spending four days stranded in an erupting volcano, has spoken out.

Juliana Marins, 26, fell from a rock at Cemara Nunggal while climbing Mount Rinjani in Indonesia on Saturday (June 21).

Juliana, who had been traveling solo in Southeast Asia, is claimed to have been on a trek with a guide when the event occurred, as she had requested a break. However, the party continued without her, and when the guide returned, they discovered Juliana had gone down the cliff.

Juliana passed away on Tuesday (June 24) after days of rescue efforts, with Tereza Cristina, a member of the Brazilian Federal Senate, paying her sympathies on Twitter.

She said on Twitter, “The entire Brazil applauded and prayed that the rescue would come in time to save Juliana Marins, a young woman from Niterói, alive. Unfortunately, they were unable to save her. Very sad.

“We extend our sympathies to her family and friends. And may the Brazilian government, through Itamaraty, call for an inquiry into the facts and punishment of those involved in Indonesia.

“In practice, Juliana was left behind twice: on the dangerous trail and after she fell off the cliff.”

Juliana’s family has subsequently spoken out on Instagram when it was discovered that the hiker could not be saved.

They wrote, “Today, the rescue crew reached the location where Juliana Marins was. With deep regret, we notify you that she did not survive.

“We remain very grateful for all the prayers, messages of love, and support we have received.”

Hikers who have taken the popular Indonesian path have spoken about the challenges it presents, with one describing it as really hard.’

He shared the following story with Globo: “It was really early, before sunrise, in bad visibility conditions with just a simple lantern to light up the terrain, which was difficult and slippery.”

The first search and rescue attempt for the Brazilian citizen was canceled earlier this week owing to poor weather, but when officials were able to assist Julian again, it was too late.

According to Gunung Rinjani National Park, the young woman was successfully watched using a drone in a position hooked on a rock cliff at a depth of 500 meters and visually immobile.’

The park added, “Two rescue personnel were deployed to reach the victim’s location and inspect the second anchor point at a depth of 350 m (1,140 ft).” However, upon further inspection, the rescuers discovered two enormous overhangs before they could reach the victim, which made anchor placement difficult. The rescuers had to climb to reach the sufferer.”
