A frightened vocalist went onto the platform, his hands quivering and his gaze darting over the audience, wondering if he belonged there. But when he opened his mouth and sang the first notes of Proud Mary, everything changed. His voice erupted to life, erupting with a passion that no one expected.
The hesitant hesitation faded away, replaced by an irresistible enthusiasm that electrified the entire room. Judges sat stunned, jaws slack, as he changed into a powerhouse right in front of their eyes. What about the crowd? They couldn’t sit still—cheers erupted, feet stamped, and he didn’t simply perform the song. He owned it.
If you’ve ever watched “America’s Got Talent,” you understand the challenge of bringing a unique twist to a well-known song. For example, while several others have recorded “Proud Mary,” Tina Turner’s incredible dancing abilities made the song popular. That’s why the “All Together Now” judges were so pleased with entrant Michael Rice’s bold decision to perform the piece in 2019.

Michael appeared uncomfortably in front of the 100 judges, explaining that he was going to perform one of his “favorite songs.” Of course, they had no idea what to anticipate at the moment, but as he said the first word, they were captivated!
In the video, their expressions range from astonishment and incredulity to sheer delight. Michael uncovers a surprising twist, and his initial verses are truly remarkable!
He somehow manages to pay homage to Tina Turner’s approach while making the song all his own. Best of all, he hasn’t even gotten to the iconic “rollin'” section yet.

When he succeeds, dozens of judges gather to dance and sing alongside Michael. He just needs a score of 81 to advance in the tournament, which he effortlessly achieves.
By the end, all 100 judges are standing to congratulate this amazing artist on his perfect score! Even his fellow contenders can’t help but admire him for his incredible skill.
Michael may not have won his season, but he will undoubtedly go far in life. His cheery voice is irresistible.
