Beloved Los Angeles news anchor has passed away at the age of 39

Chauncy Glover, a beloved Los Angeles news anchor, died. He was 39.

Glover’s family revealed his death to KCAL News, where he had been an anchor for just over a year.

“The unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy has devastated us, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy’s beloved family,” the family said in a statement.

They went on, describing Glover as “more than a son and brother—he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community.”

As of Wednesday morning, Nov. 6, his cause of death was unknown.

Glover, who shared the news desk with Pat Harvey at 5 and 11 p.m. and Suzie Suh at 8 and 10 p.m., had his first anniversary with the network last month.

In one of his farewell social media posts, he shared a compilation video on Instagram, showing some of his favorite memories with KCAL. He captioned the photo with, “Don’t watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going! My first year at #kcalnews #cbsla has come to an end! “God is good.”

Glover, an Alabama native, was the first Black male primary anchor at Houston’s KTRK for eight years before moving to Los Angeles, according to KCAL.

He won three Emmy Awards during his career and worked in Michigan, Florida, Georgia, and Texas before moving to California. Off camera, his family said that one of his happiest memories was singing at Rosa Parks’ burial in Montgomery, Alabama, in 2005.

Glover founded The Chauncy Glover Project, “an extensive, hands-on mentoring program created to groom inner-city teenage boys into upstanding and accomplished gentlemen,” according to its website.

Glover’s foundation “changed countless lives and inspired so many young men to pursue their dreams,” his family stated. “His talent, warmth, and vision left an imprint on everyone who knew him, and the world is dimmer without him.”

The outpouring of love and memories shared by those who knew Chauncy as the passionate, gifted soul he was comforts us while we grieve this profound loss, according to his family. “We respectfully request privacy as we grieve and remember his amazing legacy. “He departed from us prematurely, yet his influence will endure eternally.”
