Ben Affleck may be most known for his portrayal of Batman or his appearance in the 1990s classic Good Will Hunting, but he is also known as “Dad.”
Affleck has three children with fellow actress and ex Jennifer Garner, whom you may recognize from 13 Going on 30. With many other celebrities startling fans with their down-to-earth care of their children, the 52-year-old may have joined the list.
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has previously stated that his fortune would not be passed down to his children after his death and that his children do not fly first class with him, which is unusual given the luxury that many other children in a similar position have.
But Affleck may not be so different.
He has been a Hollywood celebrity for over 30 years, but his Massachusetts roots have not faded.
A video of Affleck and his 13-year-old son, Samuel, visiting a sneaker convention has gone viral on social media as they go through several limited edition sneakers.
Speaking on the red carpet at the SXSW film festival over the weekend, Affleck revealed his tough response when his kid requested a pair of brand Nike sneakers worth $6,000 (£4,600).
In an effort to educate the teen on the importance of money, he reminded him that ‘you’re broke.’.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, the actor described the exchange as follows: “He says, ‘We have the money,’ and I say, ‘I have the money; you’re broke!'”
“That’s what happens when you tell a motherf***er they need to mow the grass. “Suddenly they don’t want those shoes,” the seasoned actor said.
He said that ‘there’s always some grift’ when it comes to buying stuff for his kids, simply adding that his son did ‘not need thousand-dollar sneakers.’

The video in question can be seen on the Got Sole Instagram account, where the 13-year-old looks at some beautiful footwear, only for his father to point out, “That’s a lot of grass you have to mow there.
“You just like those because they’re expensive.”
But his kid instantly said, “No, they’re tough!” “I always said they looked good.”
The shoes in question were a pair of 2020 limited-edition low-top Dior Air Jordan 1 sneakers that were previously worth a third of their current price.
It’s worth mentioning that Affleck knows the importance of footwear, as he and his son are also shoe enthusiasts.
While the Dior Jordans are more of a collector’s item, Samuel told Get Sole that his father preferred Nike SB De La Soul trainers.
Users praised the film star’s answer to his kid in the comments section of the video interview uploaded on YouTube.
One person noted, “He worked with what he had. “Good for him for not spoiling his kid,” another remarked. “Self-made millionaires know not to spoil their children.”
A third individual expressed, “I truly appreciate this!” We need to educate our children on the virtues of life.”
