Bindi Irwin gives a health update after missing the Steve Irwin Gala

Bindi Irwin is speaking out after missing the annual Steve Irwin Gala on Saturday, May 10, due to a ruptured appendix.

In an Instagram video from her bedside posted on Monday, May 12, Irwin, 26, stated that she had just gotten out of surgery.

“I had my appendix removed.” I also had 14 new endometriosis lesions that needed to be removed, and they graciously sewed up my hernia as well,” Irwin stated in the video, adding that she will be “forever thankful” to her physicians.

Irwin, visibly fatigued, stated, “I’m sorry if I seem a little out of it in this video.”

“I just wanted to let you know that I’m making progress toward recovery.” I am so fortunate to have so much love in my life from my wonderful family,” Irwin added. “Sending love and light your way; we’ll get through this.”

Irwin further elaborated on her health in the post’s description.

“I am grateful that I received the assistance I required from Drs. Seckin and Chu at Lenox Hill Hospital.” After months of a grumpy appendix, I finally had to seek assistance on the day of our Steve Irwin Gala. “After consulting Dr. Seckin, we decided that if I flew to New York, he could check for endometriosis again,” the caption stated.

“The surgery was a success.” My appendix was removed, along with 14 other lesions. I also had a major hernia repaired from delivery four years ago,” Irwin explained.

Noting that she is “on the road to recovery,” she said she appreciated all “the kind messages I’ve received and the support for our Gala in Las Vegas.”

“Credit to Robert for hosting the evening; he did an outstanding job raising funds and awareness for Wildlife Warriors.” Thank you to my family for always being there for me. I adore adorable Chandler and precious Grace. “Thank you, Mum, for being there for me every step of the way,” her caption concluded.

At the event on Saturday, May 10, in Las Vegas, Irwin’s brother Robert, 21, told PEOPLE about how his sister was feeling.

“She arrived in Las Vegas, prepared to attend the gala, bravely faced immense suffering and pain, and declared, ‘Nope, I’m just going to tough it out; I’m going to go for it,'” he recalled. ” “But the surgeon told me, ‘No, your appendix is gone. That thing’s got to come out.” Health must come first.”

Bindi originally shared her endometriosis diagnosis on Instagram in March 2023, citing ten years of painful symptoms.
