Blake Lively’s lawsuit against It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni contains bombshell text messages

The text conversations in Blake Lively’s lawsuit against Justin Baldoni have now been disclosed.

The Gossip Girl star is suing Baldoni over allegations of inappropriate behavior and ‘harming her reputation through a social manipulation’ campaign.

The two appeared in a 2024 adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel It Ends With Us, which Baldoni also directed. Rumors of tension between Lively and Baldoni began to surface after the film’s release, as fans noticed them avoiding each other on press events and the red carpet, according to USA Today.

And yesterday (December 21), Lively filed a complaint (which was acquired by The New York Times), claiming that his actions have caused ‘severe mental distress’ for both her family and herself.

Baldoni’s lawyer has replied to the lawsuit’s accusations, calling them ‘completely untrue’ and accusing her of spreading false reports in a ‘desperate attempt to repair her public image.’

Lively denied that she or her agents shared any negative information about Baldoni or Wayfayer Studios.

She further stated to the newspaper: “I hope that my legal action helps expose these harmful retaliatory tactics aimed at silencing those who speak out about misconduct and helps protect others who may be targeted.”

And now the texts from the case have been released.

According to The New York Times, one of the messages obtained by a subpoena was sent in response to publicist Jennifer Abel, who was reportedly hired by Baldoni in August, according to The Daily Mail. In the text, she says that Baldoni ‘wants to feel like she can be buried,’ in an apparent reference to Lively.

Melissa Nathan, a crisis management specialist who was also reportedly recruited in August, said, “Of course—but you know when we send over documents, we can’t include the work we will or could do because that could create legal issues,” adding, “We can’t write that we will destroy her.”

She followed up with another text that read: “Imagine if a document stating everything he wants ends up in the wrong hands.” I know we can damage anyone’s reputation, but I can’t write that to him. “I’ll be very careful.”

Abel texted on August 4 that she is having thoughts of wanting to ‘plant things this week about how difficult Blake is to work with,’ adding, “Just to be ahead of it. She is making things very challenging for us.”

Later, on August 5, Baldoni texted Abel a screenshot of a Twitter thread accusing another celebrity of problematic behavior, with the caption: “This is the type of narrative we would need.”

Abel replied that she had spoken to Melissa about this and suggested focusing on “Reddit, TikTok, and Instagram.”

On August 10, Nathan’s team sent a text message stating that they were starting to notice a shift on social media, with Nathan subsequently claiming that most of the posts online are now supportive of Justin, even though she did not agree with many of them.

The court lawsuit also alleges that a meeting was held during production to address Lively’s concerns and requests while working on It Ends With Us, with her husband Ryan Reynolds reportedly present.

A few of these requests were allegedly addressed: “No more inappropriate videos or images shown to Blake, no more mention of Baldoni’s past personal issues, no more discussions about intimate topics in front of Blake and others, no further mentions of cast and crew’s personal matters, no more comments about Blake’s physical appearance, and no further mentions of Blake’s late father.”

Lively also reportedly requested that Baldoni not include intimate scenes beyond what she had consented to before filming, with the court complaint stating that Sony Pictures had approved these requests.
