For years, Mariah Carey’s 1994 hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” dominated the holiday charts. However, this year, a new song has claimed the top spot: Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”
Brenda Lee, once known as Little Miss Dynamite, achieved multiple records as her Christmas song made its debut at the pinnacle of the Billboard Hot 100 list. Remarkably, Lee recorded the holiday classic in 1958 when she was just 13 years old.

Before this announcement, the 78-year-old artist was already celebrating the 65th anniversary of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” She recently released the song’s debut music video, featuring Tanya Tucker and Trisha Yearwood, and is set to appear on NBC’s Christmas at the Opry.
Lee’s Christmas hit is now only the third-holiday song to reach number one on the Billboard charts. Its ascent to the top spot also set records for the longest duration between a single’s release and reaching the number one position. Additionally, Brenda Lee broke the record for the longest duration between number one hits by an artist and became the oldest individual to top the Billboard chart at almost 80 years old.

Expressing her disbelief and gratitude, Lee stated in a news release, “I cannot believe that ‘Rockin” has hit No. 1 65 years after it was released, this is just so special! Thank you to the UMG/UMe team for working so hard to commemorate the song’s anniversary this year. Most importantly, thank you to the fans who continue to listen.”
Reflecting on the enduring appeal of the song, Lee acknowledged its resonance across generations, considering it one of the best gifts she has ever received. The congratulatory message emphasized the timelessness of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” and wished everyone a Merry Christmas. Brenda Lee is finally receiving the credit she deserves for her celebrated holiday tune.
