Cameron Diaz just made her big Hollywood comeback after an 11-year absence.
Yes, the queen is back. The actor has reversed her retirement’ by costarring with Jamie Foxx in Netflix’s Back in Action as a former CIA operative.
That film title seems very appropriate, doesn’t it?
Diaz’s big break came in 1994, with her famous performance in The Mask. She later appeared in films such as The Holiday, Charlie’s Angels, The Other Woman, Bad Teacher, and Knight and Day.
While there are a few other genres included, she has firmly established herself as a rom-com fave. However, just days after his significant return, the 52-year-old has made a career decision that may not appeal to everyone.
Sure, Back in Action failed to impress reviewers (it has a 25 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes), but Diaz appears to be devoted to a different approach.
During an appearance on Capital Breakfast alongside Jordan North, Chris Stark, and Sian Welby, she stated, “I’ve left my ‘rom-com’ era.”
Instead, the actress has decided she’s in her ‘rom-com’ phase.
She made a similar remark in an interview with Empire, saying, “No more rom-coms, only mom-coms.”
Diaz did not elaborate on what she meant by this, but we may presume she prefers to play a mother in comedic films these days rather than the romantic lead.
That is, assuming she will be featured in any further films, as she has expressed her intention to make a permanent return. “I’m not sure how I see it. It’s difficult to say.
“If I speak it, it will become this thing. I maintain the right to decline any future film projects, as well as the right to say yes if I so choose.
“I am not defining anything. I’m simply open to whatever makes sense for me and my family at any given time.”
Regardless, she will reprise her role as Princess Fiona in Shrek 5, now scheduled for December 2026.
While Back in Action was critically lambasted, Diaz has received widespread appreciation, with fans eager to see her return to the screen.
Newsday said, “Diaz’s return is welcome, but she needs a better project.”
We Live in Entertainment concurred: “Diaz maintains her charm in these roles, and her chemistry with Foxx is strong.” I’m wondering if there’s something better to see these two back in action, as it doesn’t add up to anything.
