Cody Johnson and his wife, Brandi, share some exciting news

Cody Johnson is going to become a parent again!

The 37-year-old country music artist announced at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards that he and his wife, Brandi, are expecting their third child.

“We’re expecting a little boy! We chose to make this our announcement to the public, as well as our gender reveal,” Johnson tells PEOPLE exclusively about the joyous news, though he does not say when the baby will be born.

As for how he expects his daughters, Clara Mae and Cori, to react to being older sisters, the singer says, “My girls… you can’t beat my girls. I adore my two children with all my heart. Clara and Cori are ten and eight years old, and I suppose I’m excited to watch them help nurture this young child.

Ultimately, Johnson believes he is “a lot better situated now in terms of job and finances than I was when we had [Clara and Cori]… He’ll get a horse a bit sooner than my children did. He’ll be able to accomplish various tasks more quickly than my girls.”

When asked if he had always aspired to be a father of boys, Johnson laughs and says, “I didn’t care whether the baby was a boy or a girl, but I was pretty happy when I saw the gender reveal.”

The artist and his wife have been married for more than ten years, having met as youngsters. The couple had their first daughter, Clara, in 2015 and expanded their family with the birth of their second daughter, Cori, in 2017.

The musician recently told PEOPLE Now that if his children choose to pursue music like their father in the future, he intends to “encourage my girls to do whatever they want to do.”

“I don’t want them to feel like they have to go into the music business because I’ve been in it,” he said. “I want them to be able to pursue their aspirations with the same enthusiasm that I have. It doesn’t matter what their goals are. I’m going to fully back them.”

Johnson, who is up for Entertainer of the Year, tells PEOPLE that winning would be “the culmination of my entire career’s hard work.” From my band to my crew, management, label, producers, engineers, musicians, and everyone else.”

“I believe it is the one I desire most, selfishly. But here’s the thing: if I don’t get it, I’ll just go work on the next one,” he adds.
