The father-daughter dance at a wedding, bat mitzvah, or sweet sixteen celebration is usually memorable. When your friends and family come to see you dance with the first man you ever loved, it’s a magical moment.
Jessica Hanley made sure to leave plenty of time for a special dance with her father during her bat mitzvah. During the ceremony, Jessica and her father performed a unique dance, and her friends and family crowded around the dance floor to watch. They were, however, in for a big surprise!
Jessica’s bat mitzvah attendants should have known that she and her father Mike would not settle for a simple, traditional dance for their big occasion. Mike Hanley, a stand-up comedian, has been delighting audiences since 1989.
Before they lit up the dance floor with a fantastic choreographed dance performance that had their guests applauding and howling with excitement, the two began to dance quietly to The Temptations’ timeless hit “My Girl.”
Whitney Houston’s song I Wanna Dance With Somebody began playing shortly after that. As the tempo changed from song to song, everyone in the crowd started to laugh. The audience enjoyed a variety of oldies, dancing hits, and even rap.
The two never failed to move in sync with the numerous songs that played over the speakers, demonstrating how well they had practiced their dance.
The five-minute dance mashup included songs such as “Mambo No. 5” by Lou Bega, “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga, “Greased Lightnin'” from Grease, “Thriller,” and even “In Da Club” by 50 Cent.
Everyone at Jessica’s bat mitzvah gave the father-daughter dancing combo adoring glances as they tore up the dance floor during the scheduled mix.
As Mike and Jessica reconnected to dance to the song’s finale, “My Girl,” their dance routine came to an end. Because the event was so special, the father-daughter combo chose to celebrate it in a creative fashion rather than the traditional slow dance.
Mike has been doing stand-up comedy in various situations since 1989. Around the year 2000, he decided to put his microphone aside and devote all of his time to spending with his family. He began to feel the need to act again in 2011 and has since done so on a regular basis at comedy clubs and shows, with the agreement of his wife and daughters.
