“Home Alone” became an unforgettable Christmas classic following its 1990 debut, but where are the actors now? From child star Macaulay Culkin to comedy classic Catherine O’Hara, here’s a peek at their lives more than three decades later.
“Home Alone” immediately grabbed hearts with its amusing perspective on family turmoil and a young boy’s alone vacation trip. Chris Columbus directed the picture, which created unforgettable characters and situations that have become Christmas standards.
With the show’s popularity, the cast members became household names. Some performers rose to prominence in Hollywood, while others pursued less glamorous careers. Look at what happened to the “Home Alone” cast and where their lives went following the film’s release.
Macaulay Culkin
Macaulay Culkin became a household celebrity at the age of 10, owing to his iconic performance as Kevin McCallister in “Home Alone.” In “Home Alone,” Culkin portrayed Kevin, an intelligent and cunning child who unintentionally leaves his family behind for a Christmas holiday.
With his early success, Culkin allegedly accumulated a sizable fortune, estimated at approximately $50 million, before leaving the profession in his teens. However, the actor’s celebrity brought with it its own set of obstacles throughout the years.
His parents’ split in 1995 resulted in a bitter custody fight. In addition to Culkin and his siblings, this court battle was over his substantial earnings.
Macaulay Culkin, who played Kevin McCallister in “Home Alone,” rose to prominence at the age of eleven. His intelligent and naughty persona became an iconic feature of vacation movies, making Culkin one of the most well-known child actors of the 1990s.
Culkin ultimately sided with his mother, resulting in a full schism with his father. Years later, the child star’s father admitted, “I don’t consider him a son anymore.”
Culkin made a life-changing choice when he was 14 years old: he formally emancipated himself from his parents, thereby terminating their financial and personal influence over his career and riches. In the years that followed, the actor attempted to escape Hollywood’s limelight, momentarily going to school and seeking a career outside of performing.
At the age of 17, he married actress Rachel Miner, but the couple divorced two years later. Despite his efforts to avoid the limelight, Culkin retained the media’s attention. Following his split from longtime girlfriend Mila Kunis in 2012, concerns spread regarding his health, as he seemed thin and distant.
Narratives suggested an addiction, associating his appearance with singers like Adam Green and Pete Doherty. Previously, the tabloids jailed Culkin for possessing marijuana and prescription drugs, but he later clarified that his condition was never as severe as they claimed.
“What bothered me was how tabloids wrapped everything up in this odd pretense of compassion. “No, you are trying to shift papers,” he answered. In 2023, the actor’s lengthy and distinguished career culminated with his induction on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
During the event, Culkin expressed gratitude to his fiancée, actress Brenda Song, whom he met in 2017. The couple and their two boys attended the ceremony together, marking their first red carpet appearance as a family.

“I would want to thank Brenda. You are absolutely everything. You are my champion. You are the only one who is happier for me now than I am.” You’re the best woman I’ve ever known,” Culkin, 44, declared.
“You have given me all of my purpose. You have given me family. And after the birth of our two boys, you’ve become one of my three favorite people,” the actor said.
Catherine O’Hara
Catherine O’Hara’s portrayal of Kevin’s anxious and determined mother, Kate McCallister, in “Home Alone” was unforgettable. Her performance as the compassionate but panicked mother who rushes home after finding she has unintentionally left her son behind demonstrated her ability to combine humor and poignant moments.
While O’Hara was already a well-known performer before “Home Alone,” her career expanded in the years that followed. She had already received praise for her performances in “Beetlejuice” and many mockumentaries produced by Christopher Guest, which showcased her distinct comic approach.
She met production designer Bo Welch, who would eventually become her husband, while working on “Beetlejuice.” “So, I was in ‘Beetlejuice,’ and the production designer, Bo Welch, was really gorgeous. He eventually asked me out,” the actress explained. We went on site at the conclusion of the film and started dating,” the actress explained.
Her romance with Welch ultimately led her to Los Angeles, where she relocated to be closer to him. They married on April 25, 1992, and had two boys, Matthew and Luke, in 1994 and 1997, respectively.

O’Hara’s career grew over time, and she eventually became one of Hollywood’s most popular comic performers. Her stunning performance as Moira Rose on the TV series “Schitt’s Creek” earned her immense recognition and a new generation of admirers.
Her depiction of the eccentric former soap actress garnered her an Emmy Award, and Moira Rose became an instantly recognizable character, recognized for her extravagant dress and unusual accent. Now 70, the actress has a decades-long history that demonstrates her versatility in cinema and television.
Joe Pesci
Joe Pesci’s portrayal of Harry, one of the two inept robbers known as the “Wet Bandits,” added remarkable humorous energy to the film. His depiction of Harry brought a comedic element to the film’s frightening passages, making “Home Alone” an instant classic.
By the 1990s, Pesci had established himself as a recognized actor, thanks to classic parts in films such as “Goodfellas” and “Casino.” However, in the early 2000s, he chose to discontinue his acting career.
Moving into semi-retirement, he concentrated on music, mainly jazz, and performed under the alias Joe Doggs. He also liked spending time with his family and improving his golf skills.

However, in 2007, Pesci made a brief return to cinema for the thriller “Love Ranch,” marking a rare comeback since his last significant part in 1999. His life has been full of colorful events, including stand-up gigs in 1960s nightclubs, brushes with real-life mobsters, three marriages, and the birth of a daughter.
However, he admitted, “I am a bore.” I save all of my energy for my characters. Pesci, at 81, has made an unmistakable stamp on film, exhibiting unusual ability in both criminal dramas and comedies.
Daniel Stern
Daniel Stern played Marv, Pesci’s inept partner-in-crime in “Home Alone.” As one half of the “Wet Bandits,” Stern’s comic timing and slapstick antics made Marv an enduringly amusing figure, particularly amid Kevin’s complex traps.
Following “Home Alone,” Stern established a significant presence in Hollywood, demonstrating his versatility as an actor beyond comedy. He starred in important films such as “City Slickers” and its sequel, and he was the narrator for the popular series “The Wonder Years.”
Stern led a satisfying family life away from the television. He and his wife, actress Laure Mattos, have been married since 1980 and have three children: daughters Ella and Sophie and son Henry, who eventually followed a career in politics and became a California state senator.
To this day, the actor is still working in Hollywood, adding new projects to his formidable resume.
