A father is being hailed as a hero after rushing into the water to save his daughter after she fell overboard on a Disney cruise, according to reports. The event occurred on Sunday, June 29, when the Disney Dream ship returned to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from a four-night cruise in the Bahamas and made a stop at Disney’s private island, Lookout Cay, near Lighthouse Point, according to Newsweek and USA Today.
“The crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water,” Disney Cruise Line stated in a statement to USA Today. “We commend our crew members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes.”

According to the Disney Dream Cruise Ship Facebook Group, the girl went out from the ship’s fourth deck, and her father dived in after her.
“Her dad went in after her,” wrote passenger Kevin Furuta. “Right after the event, we heard on the loudspeaker, ‘MOB (man overboard), port side!!'” Thankfully, the DCL rescue crew responded quickly, and both were saved!”
“A little girl fell overboard, and her father jumped in to save her…” “Apparently the dad sat her on the railing!” passenger Mary Ann Sutherland said in a different Facebook post.
According to the Daily Mail, the guy was able to keep the child afloat while treading water for around 20 minutes before cruise ship passengers arrived in a lifeboat to rescue the duo. Passenger Janice Martin-Asuque, who observed the tragedy, released video footage on Facebook showing a lifeboat drifting in the turbulent waves with people seated inside. There were no injuries recorded during the event.

“We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols,” Disney Cruise Line added in their statement to USA Today.
