Old lady thinks her husband died in a fire. Years later, she accidentally sees him with a young woman

Catherine was saddened to find that her husband had perished in the fire that destroyed their house. Years later, however, her sadness was replaced with disbelief when she saw him with a young lady on television. George and Catherine Wilson have known each other since they were in university. The pair married shortly after graduation and have been happily married for 51 years.

George worked as a doctor at Miami Valley Hospital until he retired, following which he spent much of his time educating new nurses and physicians at home. Catherine, a well-known gynecologist at the same hospital, retired to be a homemaker and help her husband with lectures. Unfortunately, the couple did not have any children, but being around interested youngsters stopped them from feeling melancholy.

One evening, while George was preparing for his presentation, he noticed something burning. “Honey, did you leave the gas on?” he asked of Catherine. She usually made tea for him in the evenings before lectures, so he believed it came from the kitchen. But that was not the case.

“No,” Catherine said from her room. “It has to be Mrs. Peterson.” In the evenings, she and her family normally burn the wood logs in their garden. Could you kindly close the windows? The fragrance is strangling me as well.

George was perplexed. He closed all of the windows before heading to class that evening. Still, he proceeded around the home to make sure everything was fine, but when he approached the other end, he realized one of the rooms was on fire.

“Honey!” he cried as he ran into their bedroom. “We need to leave the house right now!” “The fire is quickly spreading.”

George and Catherine tried to exit the house, but smoke filled the entire room before they could. Catherine, who suffered from asthma, choked and fainted, while George, who tried to save his wife, was also unable to escape.

Catherine was comatose for about two months after the awful tragedy, and when she awakened, she was in a nursing facility. She subsequently found out that her husband had perished in the fire, and their home had also been destroyed. The woman grieved for hours, and the loneliness of being alone hit her for the first time.

Thankfully, Stephanie, one of George’s pupils and a nurse in the hospital where Catherine was hospitalized, was always with her throughout this time. She had transferred Catherine into a nursing home and paid her daily visits.

“I’m grateful for your help, Steph,” Catherine commented one day. “However, I need one more favor from you.”

“Sure, ma’am,” Stephanie said. “Let me know if you need anything.”

“Can I see George one last time?” Could you kindly investigate whether it is possible?” Catherine’s eyes filled up with tears.

“I’m sorry, ma’am,” Stephanie said. “The body was in a terrible state when we received it, and I’d recommend you don’t see it.”

Although she could only tolerate the sight for two minutes, Catherine insisted on meeting George. The fire had rendered it hard to tell that the motionless body at the morgue was Catherine’s loving husband, George.

The impoverished widow prepared the funeral the next week, and Stephanie was there to help her throughout. But as everyone left after the burial, Catherine could sense the absence once more.

Catherine worked hard to heal from the pain of losing her spouse. But one day, she came out of her room to watch television with the other patients, which she hadn’t done in the nursing home in six years. But when she looked at the screen more carefully, her eyes welled up. Is that actually you, George? Catherine felt both perplexed and overwhelmed. She brushed her tears away, put on her glasses, and looked intently. But then, something attracted her curiosity.

Wait, who is the young woman? And why did she just kiss George? Maybe I’m mistaken. Perhaps that isn’t George. She thought as she approached the television and took a front-row seat. But as she looked longer, she couldn’t believe what she was seeing!

Stephanie and George were posing for a variety performance at a new resort in Dayton, Miami, among a few other couples.

Catherine hurried over to Rose, a nurse who worked at the same clinic. “Rose, this man looks like the one on the TV; isn’t he the same?” She queried, displaying George’s photograph because her eyes were no longer her friends in her old age.

“Yes, ma’am,” Rose said. “But wait a minute; isn’t that your husband?” And who is the lady he is with?”

“It’s Stephanie, Rose,” Catherine explained. “She informed me my spouse had died. I cannot believe this. I’m wondering whether the whole fire in our house was a plot to get rid of me.” Did my husband do it intentionally?” She burst into tears. “Did they plan it together?”

“I don’t think so, ma’am,” Rose said. “There were plenty more methods for him to get rid of you. Why would he purposefully fire down the residence where he was staying? I believe you should phone the cops and tell them about the issue.”

Catherine took Rose’s suggestion and called 911, only to uncover a terrible secret Stephanie had been concealing for so long.

It came out that George had an affair with a lady called Clara while in college, and she was pregnant with Stephanie when they met. He was prepared to accept responsibility for the kid, but Clara caused things to spiral out of control, forcing him to leave her.

Years later, Stephanie intended to take everything away from him in retribution. So she set fire to their house and falsified paperwork claiming to be pregnant with George’s kid. The police investigated the issue and detained the young woman.

When George and Catherine reconnected at the police station after six years apart, they couldn’t stop sobbing. “I’m sorry, honey,” George replied, wrapping his arms around Catherine. “When I opened my eyes, I was in an entirely different environment. Stephanie informed me you died before you even arrived at the hospital,” he stated.

“I shouldn’t have trusted her. When I lost you, I was dying, so I drank every day to forget about it. Stephanie consistently supported me during challenging times, leading me to believe that I had overindulged in alcohol. But nothing like that ever happened.

“As for Clara’s situation, you already know everything, even how she deserted me for another affluent guy and returned to find us already together. Maybe if she had given her daughter the truth, she wouldn’t have ended up like this.”

“And you,” he added, turning to look at Stephanie. “My wife has a huge heart. We would have adopted you if you had told me you were Clara’s daughter and didn’t have anyone to look after you. You don’t have to be so cheap! I hope you regret your decision now that you’re in prison.”

As the cops handcuffed Stephanie, she stood there embarrassed. She tried to apologize to George after learning that her mother hadn’t told her the complete truth, but before that, George and Catherine walked away, hand-in-hand, hugging each other.
