Any parent will say they would do anything for their child.
Our lives alter in inexplicable ways when we become mothers or fathers. We understand that we will spend the rest of our lives on this planet caring for, cherishing, and worrying about the new life we have brought into the world.
Unfortunately, certain things are beyond a parent’s control. Events and conditions beyond their control affect far too many youngsters, as accidents and disease are as much a part of human existence as pleasure and celebration.
Alina and Aaron Edwards’ lives forever changed the day they learned that Emma, their nine-year-old daughter, had acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Despite their obvious sadness, they fervently held onto the hope that Emma would battle cancer, only to face a devastating blow when doctors informed them after a few months that there was no more they could do to save Emma’s life.
Emma’s anguished parents resolved to do everything they could to satisfy their daughter’s desires in the time they had left.
In such circumstances, the vast majority of youngsters would appreciate the opportunity to meet a famous idol, such as going to Disneyland or accompanying their favorite player on the field.
Emma’s wish, however, was very different. She asked to marry her lover, DJ, who was also just 10 years old.

Emma’s cause quickly became well-known in her town. The group of volunteers and well-wishers chose the moniker “Emma’s Army” and set out to make this little girl’s wishes come true before she died.
Emma’s family eventually turned to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for assistance in raising finances. Emma’s mother, Alina, noted, “Most kids want to go to Disneyland, but Emma wanted to get married, be a wife, and have three kids.”
According to accounts, Emma and DJ attempted to marry each other before this “wedding.” When they were eight years old, the two kids tried to plan a wedding at school and even chose their bridesmaids and groomsmen from among their classmates. Unfortunately, Emma and DJ’s teacher forbade their unofficial wedding.
Their second effort at a wedding, however, gained their parents’ approval and the support of a slew of kind-hearted persons wanting to ensure Emma’s special day.
“We managed to put everything together in less than two days, resulting in a successful donation,” Alina remarked.

When the big occasion arrived, it was documented on camera, with interviews from some of the attendees, including the groom and DJ.
“I thought she was the most attractive person I had ever seen. DJ stated, “I’ve loved her ever since.”
Alina, on the other hand, was overjoyed with her daughter’s charming young partner. She published an emotional statement on Facebook, saying:
“DJ has been Emma’s “Boo Bear” since third grade, and watching these babies together will warm your heart. DJ defends her, assists her, and makes her heart sing. She adores him. I’m sure he loves her too! He has been with her through all of her ups and downs, keeping her happy the entire time. DJ will always be part of our family.”

Emma’s big day became a reality on June 29, with her parents pushing her to the venue in a wheelchair. She wore a lovely purple dress for the occasion and smiled as her father led her down the aisle.
Emma and DJ exchanged rings and vows, and DJ kissed his wife to end the ceremony.
Emma returned to her bed to recuperate after the wedding, but her joy at enjoying her special day was clear to everybody.
A few weeks later, on July 11, 2023, tiny Emma died after a fight.
Emma’s obituary stated: “On July 11, 2023, Emma Brooks Edwards entered heaven and into the loving arms of her great-grandmother, Frannie Annie, surrounded by those who loved her the most. Emma was ten years old when she faced “The Imposter,” leukemia, for 16 months. Emma, our little unicorn, was born on April 22, 2013, to caring parents and three elder siblings, rounding out the Edwards family. She enjoyed arts and crafts, practical jokes, her family and friends, Jesus, and her recently married “husband,” DJ. Emma was a beacon to those who loved her, as well as an inspiration to everyone she encountered. She was the most wonderful daughter, sister, grandchild, niece, cousin, aunt, “wife,” haha, and friend. Her legacy is one of strength, laughter, and boundless compassion for all people.”
Emma, rest in peace. Emma, a charming young woman, departed far too quickly.
