Danny DeVito shares his honest revelation about how his height influenced his life

If anybody can demonstrate that beneficial things come in little packages, Danny DeVito is the man.

The 80-year-old actor from New Jersey has gained popularity due to his remarkable on-screen abilities and ability to make us laugh heartily.

His work in films like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Matilda, Jumanji: The Next Level, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has made him one of the world’s most likable actors.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that social media fans dubbed him “the King of Short Monarchs” last year because he embodies everything a monarch ought to be.

The fact that he reacted to this news by claiming it ‘gives him delight’ only served to strengthen his position as the master of all small men.

However, not everyone has praised DeVito’s unusual height, as being on the shorter side has made him an ‘easy target’ for bullies throughout his youth.

He earlier stated that he “took a lot of lumps” during his school days, before adding, “I was plagued; I couldn’t slow-dance with the girls I wanted to, but because my face would be in a position where I might be thought to be moving too quickly.”

DeVito was born with a rare genetic abnormality called multiple epiphyseal dysplasia (MED), sometimes known as Fairbank’s illness.

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, this kind of skeletal dysplasia impairs bone growth and cartilage formation, especially in the arms and legs.

Those with MED typically experience symptoms such as hip, knee, or ankle difficulties, as well as early arthritis. As a result, the majority of these individuals have minimal short stature, averaging between 57 and 67 inches in height, or 4.5 to 5.5 feet.
DeVito stands 4 ft. 10 in. tall.

In March 2017, he spoke with CBS News journalist Martha Teichner, who wanted to know if he believed his height had influenced his career.

As we all know, the actor’s stature frequently enhances the character he portrays, as demonstrated in the 1988 film Twins, where he comically contrasts with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

DeVito said he had “never thought of” using his personality to achieve his life and work goals.

Reflecting on his early years, the Ruthless People star admitted that he didn’t grow up with a clear sense of his desired life.

“You know, you want to be comfortable, and you want to have friends,” DeVito told reporters. “The early days of being small, standing five feet tall, well… after a time, you grow accustomed to it.

In social circles, you may begin to believe that your personality can compensate for any shortcomings.

And DeVito only ever questioned his height for one reason: he was concerned about how it might impair his ability to interact with women.

“It’s always about women,” he said, laughing. “Don’t you think?” Is it about anything else?

“Your entire existence revolves mostly around women.” When you’re a teenager, everything revolves around going to the dance.

DeVito noted that as a youngster, he frequently connected with really tall females who, like him, were self-conscious about their height.

He added, “Why not? The idea is that we’ll have a wonderful time.
In previous interviews, the actor stated that his small stature helped him stand out among the numerous aspirants applying for the same parts.

“No casting director is going to forget the 5ft guy,” DeVito announced.

So, that settles it, folks: size doesn’t actually matter.
