Following the publication of a report about a McDonald’s employee in a Virginia restaurant refusing to serve a police officer in uniform, the business began an inquiry into the employee’s actions. According to Cathy Naff’s lengthy Facebook post, her husband, Scott Naff, a veteran with the local police department, had just finished a thirteen-hour shift when he walked into McDonald’s to buy some dinner.
“My husband just got home from working a 13-hour day to share a story with me that has left me completely shocked,” Cathy wrote. He took a short break at 7:00 p.m. tonight and proceeded to the McDonald’s drive-through on Parham Road and Route 1. He was dressed in his police gear and driving his police truck. He paid for his meal and proceeded to the next window. The young man operating that window stared at him and backed away, mouthing something to my husband. Because the window was closed, my husband couldn’t hear him. Finally, he approached the window and eased it open.”

“When my husband told him he couldn’t hear him, the guy said, ‘I ain’t serving no cops,’ and shut the window.” The man then proceeded to inform everyone at McDonald’s, including the manager, that he would not be serving the cops. The personnel looked at my spouse, unsure what they should do. He had, after all, paid for his lunch, but no one wanted to deliver it to him.
“Finally, one person handed it to him without saying anything. As my husband was driving around the building, a man who was in the McDonald’s at the time approached his car and said he had never seen anything like that. He claimed the man informed the boss that she could dismiss him, but he refused to ‘serve the police.’ The manager did nothing to help and was not even the one who served him his lunch.”
“It’s amazing that people can act this way, but it’s even more shocking that the manager allowed him to continue.” I’m sure we’ll never return to this McDonald’s! This has really opened my eyes to what the people who defend us go through on a regular basis. Please pray for the men and women who serve and protect us every day, putting their lives on the line for us.”

McDonald’s promptly made a statement in response to the event.
“At our restaurants, we are dedicated to serving all of our customers, including the police officers who protect and serve our communities,” the fast-food chain stated in a statement to Blue Lives Matter. “We are conducting a full investigation into this matter and will take appropriate actions.”
Cathy and her husband got in contact with the restaurant the next day and heard that the employee had been fired for refusing to serve the police officer.
