At times, social media can prove perilous.
Tragically, 11-year-old Tommie-Lee Billington lost his life after participating in a popular TikTok challenge.
During a sleepover at a friend’s house in Lancaster, England, Tommie and his friends encountered the challenge on TikTok and decided to attempt it. However, the TikTok trend took a devastating turn, resulting in Tommie’s untimely death.

The challenge involves inhaling hazardous gases or solvents to induce a high, with substances like dry shampoo, spray deodorant, and glue being common examples.
Upon inhaling the gas, Tommie suffered cardiac arrest and tragically passed away instantaneously.

Despite efforts by medical professionals, including the hospital’s endeavors to revive him, Tommie could not be saved. His grandmother, Tina Burns, expressed profound grief, describing him as having a heart of gold akin to his father’s.
Sherri, Tommie’s mother, lamented the loss of her son, attributing it to the dangerous trend circulating on social media. She pleaded with parents to caution their children against engaging in such activities, emphasizing the grave risks involved.

Expressing her unbearable anguish on Facebook, Sherri vowed to honor Tommie’s memory by advocating for awareness and preventing similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
Tragically, Tommie’s death is not an isolated incident linked to this challenge. Another victim, 13-year-old Esra Haynes, met a similar fate.
May Tommie rest in peace.
