Fans are confused about Ryan Gosling’s casting in “Barbie” because he was “too old” to play the character

Ryan Gosling responded to social media fans by suggesting he is “too old” to portray Ken in Greta Gerwig’s next “Barbie” film.

Reporter Zach Baron brought up the age debate during an interview with Gosling for GQ’s summer cover story. “I would say, you know, if people don’t want to play with my Ken, there are many other Kens to play with,” Gosling first said, referring to the several other actors in the “Barbie” film, such as Simu Liu, who portray different versions of the Ken doll.

Later in the conversation, Gosling returned to the subject, joking about how absurd it was that people now cared about Ken.

“Did you ever consider Ken before this?” remarked Gosling of his character, whose work and, for the most part, his identity is “beach.”

“And everyone was OK with his having a job that was nothing. But then it’s like, ‘No, we’ve cared for Ken the whole time. No, you did not.” You never did,” Gosling went on. “Barbie never slept with Ken. “That’s exactly the purpose. If you ever cared about Ken, you’d realize that nobody cared about Ken.”

Gosling then joked that Ken’s detractors were being “exposed” and that Ken’s tale “must be told.”

The GQ report clearly cited a New York Post article headlined “Gen Z ‘Barbie’ fans slammed for calling Ryan Gosling too ‘old’ to play Ken.”

According to the New York Post, a tweet referred to Gosling as “too old and dry” to portray the doll, and TikTok comments referred to Gosling’s performance as “Grandpa Ken.”

However, Gosling had supporters. “Is it true that Ryan Gosling is too old to play Ken and that he is ugly?” “Have you lost your mind?” one Twitter user said.

“I honestly don’t think Ryan Gosling is ugly at all, which is why all this debate is driving me insane.” He appears to be ancient, yet he is not unattractive. “You guys are lying,” commented another Twitter user.

“I’m concerned about this guy now.” I act as his representative. ‘Ken was unable to accept this honor, so I’m here to accept it on his behalf.” Gosling made a lighthearted joke about defending himself and his character.

Barbie will leave the beautiful “Barbie Land” of the film to ponder concerns of mortality, sexuality, and aging, according to the entire “Barbie” video published in May. Ken will be there for the voyage, but so far Gosling has only revealed that he enjoys going to the beach.

“Barbie” will be released in cinemas on July 21.
